Life’s Most Important Lesson

Whether we be given a lucky hand or the worst possible scenario, it is important to stay grounded in the truth. But what is truth in this world that is full of lies? How can we find it?

Life is short

When someone dies, we don’t usually think that it could happen to us anytime soon. We like to believe that we can live forever. But that is not the truth. The Tibetan Buddhists acknowledge that truth by preparing for death early on. The dying man in the popular story “Tuesdays with Morrie” had even decided to hold his “wake” early so that he can hear the kind words of his friends before he passed away. Come to think of it, that does make more sense. I mean, who really wants to receive flowers when they’re dead?

There’s hope

That said, you would think that everyone wants to make the most out of life. But that is not the case. A few even want out of it. And though some do get by, others just barely survive. One could say that these have no hope left in them like the huge elephants trained to be held in place by a thin rope. In one way or another, we are limited by something. Rich people still have financial problems and popularity still does not equal happiness but there is hope.

We can hope for something good that will last forever. That is the truth. The Bible tells me so. If there is a single source of unadulterated truth, it is the Word of God. It says that heaven is real. God is real. Really. And guess what? Satan and hell are also part of that truth. Many of us deny it by the way we live our lives but it remains true nevertheless.

God has a wonderful plan for each of us that Satan works to thwart every single day. The good news is that God is more powerful than the enemy. The not-so-good news is that we are not. So we need to have God in our lives to experience that wonderful plan in this life and beyond.

Got Jesus?

Jesus is the way that God gave for us to experience life with Him. He is the forgiveness that covers every single one of my sin – and yours too, if you ask Jesus to be a real part of your life and to help you to follow Him.

No matter what

When He came into my life, I believed His promise that He would never ever leave me. It is His promise for all who believe in Him – in their minds but more importantly, in their hearts. And the most important lesson that I am learning and relearning everyday is that the constant awareness of His presence is enough to keep me grounded when I am in a good spot and to keep me smiling when everything else is down and out.

I pray that we will all find the joy of being with Him so rewarding that it shows and flows out to those we love…and maybe even those who we don’t love yet.
