Look at You
Self-reflection.
This could take you through a little guilt trip, but hey! we’re all only human. Get your bucket of ice cream and read away!
Take 10 minutes time out! Not for me, not for your friends, not for your love, not for your boss, but for yourself! Yes, you are a busy person. Everyone is a busy person. Walk up to a full length mirror and look at yourself. This is who you are after all these years….this is who you have become, though it might not be what you wanted to be. Take a deep breath. Brace yourself and ask the unstoppable question, “Are you happy?”
At this point, do not think about your credit card loans, your car that requires a shine, the gift you were supposed to buy for your nephew’s birthday, your unfinished projects at work…STOP! Don’t think about all that. Focus on just you…only you and you alone. Look at yourself as the established. You could be a mom (hats off to all moms – the creators on earth), you could be a dad (who’s gonna teach us to be tough on the out side and sensitive inside ! not to mention every kid’s life size ATM, lol), you could be a economic analyst (the businesses are at your mercy!), you could be a student (the brilliant today who’d carve the better tomorrow), you could be an athlete (the burning aspire for many who see your performance), you could be anyone, but what you are is a blessing in itself….acknowledge that…realise that ! You are special and you are precious.
Now come back to ground. Feels nice to fly high doesn’t it? Yes, the smug smile on your face says it.
Right now the hard bits to swallow – Are you happy? Part 2 – Is this what you want? Is this who you wanted to become? What’s wrong in your routine that is making things difficult for you? You are staying up at nights because…..? All the worries and depression might float back to you like a bad memory that haunts you although you want to forget it! Well, stop whining, list them down! Yes, list them down.
Write down the things that worry you. Things you hate about your present life. Things that upset you. Read through your list and put it aside. Now, pen down things that you could do to change it all. Things you wished that should happen to stop your miseries. List the ways you are going to get there to that particular dream of yours. Read through it carefully and now you are ready to make the third and most important list.
Take List 1 of “bad stuff” and list 2 “How to erase bad stuff”, make list 3 :”Time lines”. Every thing listed on list1 using a technique mentioned in list 2 should be completed by ………..( Time frame : mention this in list 3).
This might take time to fill but it’s worth while. Do not use the lists as a de-motivator! It’s supposed to be for your good! You WILL feel good when you start ticking things off in list 3. The feeling is beyond words.
Small things to big things, everything can be changed. Effort and will is all it takes. How can you take effort to change when you are not sure where to start. Hence why the list. The concept is pretty much the same as a bucket list. But only better is that you are the manager of your changes. You decide what you want to change and how you’d do it. No one knows you better than you do.
Take 10 minutes of your time….not for me, not for your friends, not for your brother, but for one very special person – YOU. Just look at you!

Ahhh, self-reflection, time to ponder how you fit into this great big thing we call life. Ask yourself the deep questions. Why are we here?
