Make my Day – or Someone Else’s

by Lisa Linthicum in Lifestyle Choices, October 10, 2008

A commentary on the power of sharing a compliment.

Recently I had a complete stranger stop me in a store. They smiled and said, “You look so pretty in that dress.” WOW! I can’t tell how my entire being swelled with joy and glee. I mean, I must have really caught that lady’s attention for her to stop me and share her nice comment. Especially in our world today where we worry about “strangers” and crime, etc.

While I was running errands about a week later, I noticed a lady wearing a beautiful outfit. She also just had that “put together” look going – perfectly fixed hair, cool shoes, nice make up, and exquisitely manicured nails. I thought about how I felt when that stranger complimented me. I gathered up my courage and approached her. “You look really beautiful today. “

The woman about fell over. She smiled brightly and said, “Thank you so much. You have made my day.” I saw her several more times throughout the mall that day and noticed that she still had the big smile planted on her face. I could also tell that her entire world had been brightened (if only momentarily) by my sharing a compliment.

Wouldn’t this world be a fabulous place if we were all nicer to each other? It’s amazing how much power a few kind words can have. Why don’t you make a special effort to brighten the day of a loved one – or even share a compliment with a total stranger.

The results will astound you.

“Random acts of kindness” will lift the world up!

And, tell yourself you look pretty every single day – because it’s true!

    Blessings.

    Sincerely,
