New Age
What is new age thinking? What does Louis Hay have to say? Does it make practical sense?
“If wishes were horses, beggars would be riders”. I’ve often heard something to this effect, whenever someone wanted to imply that wishful thinking gets you nothing! But I don’t believe in this age old saying completely…
Have you read Louis Hay? If you have you’ll know what I am getting at…that wishes could actually be horses!!! But only if you believe with all your heart that you deserve to get what you are wishing for and believe that you will get it! Also when the opportunity comes your way which will make your wish come true…choose to take it!!!
Does this sound like hogwash or some silly new age concept?!! I would have said the same too, in fact those were my first thoughts when I was introduced to these concepts of so called “New age thinking”!!! But something urged me to go on…to explore these concepts and I figured out that they actually make sense…logically and practically! Let me explain how, I’ll go back to Louis Hay for a moment, now she is a brilliant thinker and author! To explain in short, what she has said in the numerous books she has written is this (this is my interpretation)- “If you want something really badly, believe that you will get it…know it like a fact! Affirm that you are already getting what you want (it could be a new job, better relationships, peace in your chaotic life…whatever).
At the same time release all negativity from within you, whether its anger; stress, resentment, jealousy, insecurity, malice…whatever…release those emotions because the only person they harm is You. Such emotions in fact do not allow you to focus on what you want completely neither can you believe like a fact that you will get what you want and prevent good from coming to you!”
Now we come to how it makes practical sense – Let’s take an example say you hate your job and desperately want a new one. We’ll look at two situations that you could be in such a scenario.
Situation A
If you constantly blame all your colleagues for the terrible situation you are in at the workplace, harbor feelings of resentment and jealousy you will be forever in a crabby mood at work, would spend half your day seething with anger or feeling miserable about yourself …now that doesn’t sound like a very happy situation right?!
Situation B
Now if on the other hand if you affirm daily that “I have a wonderful job”, bless your colleagues…feel that there’s enough good in the world for everyone, count your blessings (however small or big they maybe…everyone has lots, it’s just their way of looking it) you will go to work feeling and looking happy! You will not spend most of your time angry or resentful, which means you can work to your potential; you’ll have an open mind and trust me the best ideas come to you when you are happy!
So which situation sounds better A or B?
I know some of you might feel it’s easier said than done!! But trust me I am doing it…it takes time, sometimes you feel all this “thinking” is crap…but then something will happen which will restore faith once you start walking down this path! So it really isn’t that difficult.
