Reasons Not to Become a Vegetarian

For thousands of years humans have eaten meat as a staple food for survival, the benefits are clear so why do people still choose to deprive themselves from it?

Since the birth of human civilisation we have eaten meat as a staple diet for survival.

Here are some reasons why people decide be become anomalies of human existence I found from an on-line source, any my reply to this statement:

‘Avoiding meat is one of the best and simplest ways to cut down your fat consumption. Modern farm animals are deliberately fattened up to increase profits. Eating fatty meat increases your chances of having a heart attack or developing cancer’.

No, the simplest way to cut down your fat consumption is by eating less fatty foods, not cutting them out completely. Our body’s need fat for energy and warmth. Yes eating fatty meats increases the risk of these very common medical hiccups, so why not take the time and effort to cut excess fat off the said meat? Or even just limit the amount?

‘There are millions of cases of food poisoning recorded every year. The vast majority are caused by eating meat’.

Yes there are, that’s just down to bad hygiene and people not cooking the meat thoroughly, if your worried about this happening, your just lazy. Try washing your hands and learning to cook.

‘Meat contains absolutely nothing – no proteins, vitamins or minerals – that the human body cannot obtain perfectly happily from a vegetarian diet’.

Whom ever wrote these reasons must have the head muscle of a stray flip-flop. Meat contains very high quantities of protein, Meat also contains vital amino acids, vital for our body to work properly.

‘Animals who die for your dinner table die alone, in terror, in sadness and in pain. The killing is merciless and inhumane’.

This is a reply to all comments regarding the suffering of animals. Animal cruelty? Do you own a pet? That’s animal Cruelty, taking it out of it’s natural habitat, but you see it’s now a way of life, a part of modern culture. In England out animals are kept and treat well, live long lives and are slaughtered properly causing as little pain as possible.

They do not die alone, and how do we know they are in ‘terror’ and ’sadness’, do we now employ cow whisperers?

Obviously your sources are pulling your leg.. The fat you are talking about is unrelated to meat in general being fatty.. You will find the actual flesh can be high in saturated fat. Chickens especially are fed antibiotics (according to peta one antibiotic contains a toxic form of arsenic), these are used to keep them alive otherwise they would die from the diseases they contract from being in such confined spaces. Other carcinogens used in production are dioxins, heavy metals and we are all aware of the hormones used in most animal production… Not to mention the ill effects animal production has on the environment, that alone must contribute greatly to all modern illnesses.

On your second theory… Food poisoning is not simply about poor hygiene on the consumers behalf, it happens in the production line, at its worst even the most thorough cook will not be able to kill harmful bacteria (but this can also happen in vegetables and nuts etc, salmonella does not discriminate, but this is usually due to infected water supplies)

I have cut and pasted this next one from your rant..

“‘Meat contains absolutely nothing – no proteins, vitamins or minerals – that the human body cannot obtain perfectly happily from a vegetarian diet’.
Whom ever wrote these reasons must have the head muscle of a stray flip-flop. Meat contains very high quantities of protein, Meat also contains vital amino acids, vital for our body to work properly.”

I am not sure what your point is ere, but the quote that you have replied to has simply stated that there is nothing you get from animal by products that you can not get from a healthy vegetarian diet. Which is more than true… We have endless resources that would ensure we would be able to sustain a more then healthy lifestyle without animals as food..

As for your last section.. I am sure you understand that all animals we eat have nerves etc, hence they also feel pain, no matter how their death is served.. Having a pet does not mean you are committing animal cruelty, in most cases you are providing them with a home that would have far better standards and life expectancy then say.. a stray cat living in an alley, or a wild dog hunting.. On a personal note, I do believe it is inhumane to keep a bird in a cage and recognise that all pets should have another of their kind as a companion, but.. I am going to assume you do not care to that extent?..

If the beliefs you state are what you need to feel better each meal, sure go and indulge.. But at least come to the table with some plausible points if you want to get into debate about it..

Dude, what’s your problem?! Don’t you realize that you’re offending me and many other vegetarians?! If you want to eat meat, then fine, but don’t go right out and insult my lifestyle. I for one, was perfectly happy and in great health, that is until you came along. Its people like you that ruin vegetarianism for us. I can honestly say that you made a young girl cry. I hope you’re happy.

I am going to sponsor a vegetarian now, if i go out to a retrarant with them i am going to eat my share, and the share of a delcious animal they have wasted, good look getting your amino acids and iron losers

Not a vegetarian myself, but I found your arguments weak. You retorted to statements that were either dubious, such as the final example, or misinterpreted the quote entirely, as in the second to last example.

For an essay titled ‘Reasons Not to Become a Vegetarian’, you’ve failed to give even a single solid reason, and merely rebutted quotes without the solid backing of research, or probably addressing the issues inherent to vegetarianism (animal cruelty, environmental degradation, health, etc).

“Our body’s need fat for energy and warmth. Yes eating fatty meats increases the risk of these very common medical hiccups, so why not take the time and effort to cut excess fat off the said meat? Or even just limit the amount?”

Vegetables have fats too, usually in the form of oils – olive oil, palm oil, soybean oil for instance. It is also not entirely accurate to say that our bodies need fat for energy, since the primary source of energy actually comes from carbohydrates, although fats is still important as a nutrient.

Moreover, it is not just eating ‘fatty’ meat that increases your risk of getting cancers and other illnesses. With regards to cancer, carcinogenic compounds are found in lean meat like fish and chicken as well, due to HCAs being produced in the process of cooking. This is by far the most ignorant reply to the subject of animal cruelty I’ve ever seen. The link of domesticated pets to factory farm animals raised for slaughter is ridiculous. A typical pet dog would probably never get to suffer like a conventional farm pig would, even though pigs are proven to be more intelligent than their canine counterparts.

Moreover, it is entirely inaccurate to say that farm animals in England are kept properly and happily in their dwellings. Perhaps farming practices are better in the UK, but unless the animals are bred organically/ pasture-farmed, your ideal of a happy, comfortable farm animal living a long life is entirely whacked.

Most farm animals nowadays (including the ones in UK) are fed drugs to make them grow a lot faster (meaning they die out faster as well), kept in congested cages, neutered and branded (if applicable) without painkillers, etc.

They do not die alone; they die in mass slaughtering.

And we cannot know for sure that they have human emotions such as ’sadness’, but they do fear, and they do feel pain.

There’s no such thing as ‘cow whisperers’, but go to a factory farm or a slaughterhouse if you’re still convinced in your idealized version of a farm animal.

You should do your research before rebutting anything, or you’ll only show how ignorant you are.

I was bullied cos I ate meat and was called horrible names by vegetarians…
we are built to eat meat! wither we like it or not!
I love animals with my heart and soul but I don’t want to interfere with nature at the same time.
Its not like you can bring a lion to court cos he/she needed to eat meat and killed the animal viciously/naturally
I never buy proccesed meat and i come from a friendly part of scotland were the slaughter house humanely put the livestock down before slaughter!
also i say sorry to the animal spirits for consuming it and i thank God for the animal that i have just ate.
not every-one is out to harm animal rights
    I’m certainly not….
    Don’t judge me,
    I’m only human

90% of vegetarians are full of themselves and talk down to you. FACT.

Vegetarians on average are healtier… Yeah because they made the choice for health and ethical reasons, so of course they\’re healtier, they\’re trying to be!! You can watch your diet and still eat meat.
    FACT.
