Reminisce in Serenity

by Liane Schmidt in Lifestyle Choices, September 10, 2007

Spend time in simple harmony.

I am trying to spend more time listening to the natural sounds of nature; the wind blowing through the trees that separate my neighbors’ apartments from mine. The quiet creaks of doors opening and closing. The various daily sounds that come along with chores like dish washing and vacuuming.

Without the distraction of the television set, my day feels lighter. It feels cooler and I feel more serenity wash over me. I have a beautiful view of the richly green leaves adorning the trees outside my window and it is so peaceful to watch them sway in the wind. Even taking the time to just allow the fresh outside air to come into my humble abode feels cleansing and refreshing to my soul.

I have always liked to do much on my own. When I am alone, I am able to sit in my thoughts and reminisce or think about anything that I so choose to. Once I had to get six stitches in my chin and as the doctor was working her magic she asked me if I meditated. She said I was doing so well. I believe it has to do with the way that I live my life. Less truly is more. And, when you have more time to breathe in every moment of the day, you are in a state of meditation.

Meditation truly is a practice that allows you to quite your mind and keep serenely focused on the present moment. You allow all your thoughts to just come and go freely without judgment, stress or strain. It is a truly healing and beautiful way to spend your time. I often find when I am at odds with a situation, event or person in my life I turn to time alone and nature and my heart is soothed again.

Nature has the gift to heal itself. This can be seen in how fires in forests are necessary for when the ashes mix with the soil it enriches it and makes it possible for new trees to grow. Just as nature can heal itself so too can we. The more we listen to our internal voice, our true voice the more that we can heal ourselves at anytime of the day.

Nothing can bring you pain unless you allow it to. The power of the mind is infinite and everyday I try my hardest to learn how to maintain it at its highest capacity so that it will only lead me to higher realms of beauty, love, peace and joy.
