Respect for Life
What does respect for life really mean? Do we treat others the way they deserve to be treated? It is important to take time to treat others with dignity.
I have listened over and over to how television personalities and movie stars condemn the (former) President of the United States. He is a man that under extreme, difficult circumstances made decisions that no one should have to make. Whether you think they were right, wrong or you’re indifferent; did you treat and talk about him with respect? Didn’t he deserve that? The news and elections tear people to shreds to sell a story or win an election. We watch and take sides. Wouldn’t it be better to say that we’re all doing the best we can in this thing called life? Is it necessary to personally attack other humans?
You don’t have to agree with a person’s politics, religious beliefs, parenting style or whatever your issue is. I ask that you look when you walk down the street at how you behave towards those around you. Have you opened a door, carried the groceries, stopped your car so someone can walk by or even just look up, smile and say hello, have a nice day? Did you call your friend to let them know you’re thinking of them? Did you hug your family and tell them you love them? Did you take pleasure in the gift of life that is all around you? Look around you at the plants, trees, animals, flowers, children and look up at the sky at the sun. Feel the warmth on your face and then remember this is life and we are all doing our best to get through it. Wouldn’t it be more enjoyable and easier if we were in it together? Wouldn’t facing a problem be less complicated if you knew someone else in the world thought you mattered and took the time to tell you? Respect for life begins with each other in our day to day lives. When we have achieved that respect, the rest may just fall into place.
