Secrets of Success: Celebrate Your Small Wins

If you feel like your life is headed in no certain direction, or that you are careening out of control, then you need to read this! Many people stumble through life in survival mode and are simply getting by from one paycheck to the next; one appointment, one program, one more thing to do or place to be.

If you really want to start making incremental changes in a positive direction then you need to start saying “NO!” to the ankle-biters of your time.  The easiest way to clear up some time for you is to clear up some time for you.  You are the only one that can do it.  So, just do it!

Now that you have cleared up a spare moment, preferably an uninterrupted 60 minutes each week, what should you do with yourself?

Commit to taking 60 minutes each week to reflect on your specific progress in key areas of your life and you will find a renewed energy and satisfaction in your living.  Seeing one’s own progress is one of the most motivational rewards of all.  When you reflect on your life and see that your decisions over the past week have helped you make progress towards your desired outcomes, then you can’t help but celebrate your accomplishments!

People accomplish significant things all the time, but until you stop to celebrate those accomplishments, you will not reap the replenishing rewards that they offer you.  However, if you will do this for just 6 weeks, you (and those around you) will notice a positive change in your life.

You don’t even need to go on a vision quest or pay for a life coach; all you need to do is start to recognize the progress that you are already making in your life.  Many people tend to be very hard on themselves and therefore do not attribute appropriate credit to their achievements.  Once you take time to look with an attentive eye at your own life for positive progress, you will start to see evidence popping up all over the place.

Well, do you pause on a regular basis to reflect on your progress in key areas?  If not, you may be sabotaging your own success.  Have you set achievable goals that can be measured in weekly and monthly increments?  First things must come first; before you can reflect on progress, you must first set clear goals.

What things will you do in the next week that will help you to be closer to your goals or more proficient in your challenged areas?  Then, in one week, reflect on how you did in those key areas.  Look for small steps of progress.  You probably didn’t lose 40lbs. last week, but maybe you lost 2lbs.  If your goal was to lose 8lbs. last week, but you only lost 2lbs, then what should you do?  Celebrate the 2lbs. that you lost!  If you didn’t meet your goal exactly, then what did you accomplish?  The point is to take 60 minutes to reflect on the accomplishments of your life over the last week and look forward to achievable goals for the next week.  This practice will renew your focus and energy in life.  Don’t believe me?  Try it for just six weeks!
