Self Overhaul

by mikael in Lifestyle Choices, August 20, 2007

I need to drag out all the boxes and get ready for a self overhaul. Throw this stuff to the garbage before another year is out, and foresee myself a better future ahead.

UNHEALTHY HABITS

I had to concentrate on feeling better by eating right and quitting bad habits like smoking. I’ll try to find activities I personally enjoy either alone or with friends.

HATING MY JOB

I always believe that it’s tremendously important to enjoy what I’m doing. If it’s not fun, something fulfilling, or something that I can be proud of, if not then I need to change my career path.

On this situation, I may manage to make a living but I will never totally excel and achieve real happiness in both emotionally and financially unless I’m passionate about what I do. With technical “support group” work in a manufacturing company; for instance, tight deadlines on scheduled shipments can leave me strained, cranky, and sometimes harassed. At the end of the day, though, the work gets done and all that I’ve felt simply passes and dissipates. Days after, I just find myself laughing about it.

Whatever it is that stresses me out at work, I’ll just think of it as good training and discipline that I use to help myself advance in my career. The very same discipline build character – something essential for all the other aspect of my life, and something money can’t buy.

PROCRASTINATION

I had observed that it doesn’t get any better, if I keep waiting until tomorrow or the next day to do something I don’t really want to do. In fact it’s just getting bigger. I’ll just try to get started right away and who knows once I get a little bit done, I’ll be surprised at how manageable the entire task is.

MAKING IT ALL ABOUT ME

I find it a great way to make my own life happier and more fulfilling when I find ways to make other people’s lives better. When I act according to my own abilities, then I know when to lead, when to follow, when to get help and when to give help.

ENRICHING EXPERIENCES

Whatever I do, whatever mistakes and triumphed I committed over the course of my own life really enrich my experience. Each time I feel that I’ve failed at something too many times, I’ll just try to console myself with the fact that I’ve learned my lessons the very same number of times. I will not be afraid to try new things, but at the same time, I won’t place unrealistic demands on myself. I’ll try to work and strive to secure more happiness in life.

But really, I know that the point to life is not just to achieve happiness but to enjoy what I’m doing in the process of attaining it.
