Solving Negative Emotions

How to get out of the spiral of negative thoughts and bad karma.

Depending on other people can only create a continued state of existence where the person is never completely on his own, he has to wait until another person intervenes or submits to another person’s judgement. This is fine as far as certain couple arrangements are concerned where one of the two gives in to the decision making of the other but in the long run it adds to negative emotions and resentment for not being your own boss. The way of avoiding negative upsets is to reason as Willa Cather did in her statement about what happens when one tries to build up their security through the generosity of others. Her message was that such a person will never be content.

When feeling disappointment it may be that you may have liked a better promotion or your son is going out with someone you would not have recommended. The way of getting over this negative emotion is by reasoning that you must have disappointed someone else in life too so why feel the same way towards others. In other words since when have you been able to count on yourself for everything. Getting over this does take maturity and an understanding that we are not all perfect so how could someone else be perfect for you.

Being angry can put you into a revengeful mode or make you feel bitter about a previous pleasant situation gone sour. These are the ingredients of other negative thoughts that will affect your work performance during the day or make you ill at ease when being in the company of people you like because you don’t want to appeared upset. One should try to separate the cause from the anger and ask yourself how relevent that heartache is on your being happy in life.

Phyllis Diller was quoted as saying never go to bed angry, stay up and fight. There is some wisdom about not carrying your anger into sleep, surely you will toss and turn so it is better to resolve the issue even it means swearing out loud. This is not to say that all anger is useless or unproductive, it can help to resolve one’s bitterness towards being repeatedly abused or mistrusted for no reason.
