Ten Ways to Maintain the Right Attitude in Difficult Times

Difficult times and seasons are not uncommon, but our attitudes to life’s problems, disappointments, and failures determine our survival. Here are ten simple ways to maintain the right attitude in challenging situations.

Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude: Since not all of life’s experiences are pleasant, the only way to maintain stability at all times is to be thankful for all things. Thankfulness does not mean that you have chosen the easier way of ignoring your tragedies; rather it speaks of a renewed hope for now and the future.

Understand That Your Life’s Script is Not Written By You: Given the fact that you are not the author of your life’s script, you can be sure that whatever life throws at you, even if it appears to be a consequence of your choices or a well thought out plan gone bad, you can always write it off as a mistake, wish yourself better luck next time, and simply move on. All your experiences are part of an ultimate script. The casting director who is God himself, did not make the wrong choice in handing you the role(s) of your life. Trust  in his right judgment and believe that no one can play your role better than you can. Therefore, you are already well-equipped for all the events of your life, including those that you may call mistakes and misfortunes.

Its Not All About You: Keeping this point close to your heart is very important. Remember that somewhere out there, somebody is experiencing something similar, or even worse than your current circumstance(s). People are always watching our attitudes and you never know who you may be mentoring by maintaining the right attitude through your struggles.

Smile: Cheer up! Things could be worse. Smile! It may increase your face value. No matter what your failures are, remember that there is always something to look forward to. Whatever you desire and do not possess is more likely than not in the hands of someone around you. Wearing a frown will keep people away from you and reduce your chances of getting the favor of others. A good smile reduces those wrinkles and makes your heart merry. In addition, it creates an aura around you that draws other people towards you. This in turns brings your heart’s desires to your doorsteps.

Keep Hope Alive in Your Heart: This will make you sing even in the midst of life’s disappointments and frustrations.

Create Stepping Stones from Stumbling Blocks: Consider every disappointment in your life as an opportunity to get closer to your inner being; the seat of divine guidance and wisdom that lies within you. Accept each of your shortcomings as a way of introducing you to a higher level of understanding.

Make Your Plans, but Let God Direct Your Actions: You will be much happier if you realize and clearly understand the following fact early enough in life. It is very good for you to make plans, but only if you trust God’s outcome and not yours. For as long as all the variables that may affect the outcomes of your strategies are not entirely under your control, you can only depend on hope.

Learn to Laugh: It is actually quite therapeutic to have a hearty laugh ever so often. While reminding you that you cannot take life too seriously, it increases the overall wellness of your being! Thus, it elongates your life and leaves you with more happy memories through it all.
Understand That Life is Not a Problem: Some people spend an entire lifetime putting out insignificant fires, solving unnecessary problems, and setting things up around them to avoid any future problems. They end up  being caught up in  a cobweb of intrigue and needless complications, that they forget to live. Life is not a problem to be solved but a mystery to be lived. Relax in the divine wisdom of the God head to see you through the mysteries of life as they unfold before you.

Realize That a Grateful Heart is a Merry One: The best prescription for a life filled with joy and happiness is a grateful heart. Remember, you can always choose to sing and dance in the rain instead of complaining about the weather.
