The Answer to Life
A need for fulfillment.
What a title for an article, the answer to what life? The life we live or the life we want to live? The life we want to live full of excitement and pleasure, with a job that gives us power and good income. Income we never dreamed of as we grew up not knowing what the future had in store for us. Yes, power, wealth and fulfillment are the ultimate. What else could we ask for?
The answer to life…but how many of us can say the above is our life. How many can say even if the above is our life; that we are happy?
Excitement….pleasure…power…money…money….money.
Alternatively, is there something missing? A little something, we cannot put our finger on, or maybe more of the above!
Maybe some mystical happening could take place, or some big – or maybe just little change. Yes, that is it we need a change in our life, but what kind of a change. I need something in my life that changes me for the better. For the better, hell no, what am I talking about for the better! My life is good!
Then why do I still think I need a change? Perhaps, I do think something is missing, but what? I have everything; excitement, pleasure, power and money. What more could I ask for?
Fulfillment……that damn word keeps popping up in my mind. What does it mean?
Check the dictionary…fulfillment: To bring about the accomplishment of something promised, hoped for or anticipated. To get through the end of a period.
Wow! As I was growing up, I do not remember promising myself excitement, pleasure, power or money. I have to think, what did I promise? To love honor and obey my parents. I did that most of the time. To not covet? Most of the time. To not kill? I never did that. Wait a minute; I am talking about the Ten Commandments.
That is church stuff. Does that still apply to my life today? Maybe I do need a change. Change back to some of those simple principles and rules I grew up with, like the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer and the Golden Rule. They do not have to be religious.
Maybe I need to look at the world around me and ask myself what I have contributed. What have I contributed without a thought of a return to my country, my neighbors, my fellow workers, the poor, the homeless and my church? What have I given back with no thought of a return? Maybe the change I am looking for is to start giving and quit taking. Maybe I keep thinking about that fulfillment. What if we all started to give without the thought of a return? We would change the world and become a world of givers not just takers without any thought for returns, only thoughts of what I and we can do for others.
We could eliminate poverty, hunger and maybe even wars. Wait a minute; eliminate wars that would put many people out of work.
Funny isn’t it how poverty, hunger and war are a great part of our economy. World War 2 was a big factor and eliminated most of these problems for a while. Millions are made as we continue to try to solve these problems.
The real answer is simple, just become a world of givers and not takers with no thought of a return but only thoughts of what we can do for others.
I am sure we would be told this is not a reality. We do not want real fulfillment in our lives. We are to busy with excitement, pleasure, power and wealth.
Simple but true, we have no real love in our hearts. Most of us just do not know what the word fulfillment means. If we did we would change, and we would eliminate poverty, hunger and wars.
We would become a world full of kindness, understanding and above all a world full of love.
