The Kid in You
To yourself make a promise, live every day like you’re going to get your first kiss, and if you do you’ll never lose the kid in you.
Ever hear people say, “you only get to be fill in the blank once”? Don’t you hate that? I think it’s supposed to make you feel less guilty about doing something fun that may not be the best idea at the time, but hearing that makes doing something fun and out of the ordinary a little discouraging. I don’t want to think that every time someone tells me that I only get one chance to be young, that I only get one chance to be 14 or 6 or 20 or 11. I disagree. I think there’s a different way to look at this.
You don’t get only one chance to be any of those ages. In fact, the older you get, the more chances you get to be 14 or 6 or 20 or 11. Think about it. When you are going through a rough time at a certain age, say 13, there a lot of changes that are happening to you, both mentally and physically. But while you are 13, you aren’t aware of all these changes. You probably don’t even realize that you’re going through something. Maybe not until you’re 15 or 16 do you look back and reflect (which I hope you do do from time to time) on the past and see what was happening back then and why having that one best friend was the most important thing to you. You understand yourself better when you are older, but you have a hard time knowing yourself while you are going through all those changes.
That is why it’s easy for an 18-year-old actress to act 15, but not as easy for a 15-year-old actress to act 15. Of course, there are those occasions where Hollywood picks people that are the same age as their character because they end up being the best fit and acting their own age well. But most of the time, they pick someone older. One example I can think of is Rachel McAdams. In both ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘The Notebook’ she played someone much younger than her age. I think she’s almost 30, but had to act 16 and 17 again. And take Tobey Maguire from ‘Spider-Man’—almost the same thing Rachel did. Melissa Joan Hart. She was around 30 acting as a 16-year-old on Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
So I say, it’s ok to act younger than your age! Go crazy once in a while! If you’re 48, you’re also 47, 46, 45, 44, 43, 42….

I really like this! Someone once told me you have to grow old but you don’t have to grow up. Loved this article.

I agree, You are only as old as you feel.Of course you might get some strange looks if you start climbing on the monkey bars at 50. I’m kidding I do it all the time with my granddaughter and sometimes I do get a few strange looks.I say they are just jeleous because they can’t do it.
