The Melody of Life
Taking a little “down time” for a meditative moment or two along life’s highway.

It is often said, “We don’t miss what we’ve never had”. I disagree. I just thought I’d share this snippet of information with you! One does not have to agree with everything that has been uttered by the so-called “sages”! They, too, like the rest of us were, and are, capable of making mistakes. I have no desire to burst anyone’s bubble, but not one of us is infallible. How boring life would be if we never erred. That being the case, I’ll let you into a secret; my life has never been boring, and mistakes – well, I’ve made my fair share and more! In saying that, I’ve made many right decisions, too. In a previous article I wrote about the choices in life one faces, some expected, others unexpected – “whether to” or “whether not to”. When standing at the crossroad of choices most times it’s prudent to ponder a-while before taking the next move.
However, sometimes, spontaneous action can prove to be the better choice. Take a deep breath; push that door open and barge on in without a backward glance. Without going into details, during the past couple of months or so I’ve acted on the latter option without disappointment or regret. I discovered a whole new and wonderful world, one which has given me a different outlook on my life; a different perspective on all things past, present and future. Don’t be afraid – remember that deep breath! Some things that have been lost for years can be found. It’s a matter of looking in the right places, and knowing it’s the correct thing, for you, to do.
Can you recall the days of splades, Filet Mignons, Beef Wellingtons, French Onion Soup and Prawn Cocktails, washed down by Porphyry Pearl or St. Cora Burgundy? When Crepe Suzettes and Bombe Alaska reigned supreme at the dessert table? When only yesterday we were 25, trim, taut and terrific? And boy! Did those hipster Jamaican shorts look good! Then suddenly, without warning, today became tomorrow, and then all too soon we’ve discovered too many yesterdays shrouding our today? Many dreams fulfilled – a few still in the weaving. Things we meant to say or do. Things we’ve said and done. Actions of which we’re proud and those we’re not that linger to torment endlessly. Of the people who have crossed our paths, and of those whose memories, fond or otherwise, endure within – laughter shared, tears spilled, confidences kept – life is funny that way!
The days of future passed – far too quickly, with barely time to catch our breath. Loved ones lost, but never forgotten, remain in comforting kind to hold our hands and guide us onwards. We’re not handed a script for life. We just try to do the best that we can. The majority of our way through life is ad lib, but at all times one must remember to take heed and dance to life’s melody, whether alone or with another.
