The Positive Side of Giving Up

No one wants to be considered a quitter. But sometimes giving up is a viable option when the path we’re traveling leaves us too physically, emotionally and spiritually spent to enjoy the best aspects of our lives.

Don’t feel guilty for thinking about giving up; it just might be the best decision you make. It is a decision that will empower you to take back control of your life and stand up against negative opinions, toxic people and self-limiting thoughts. Initially you may want to sneak back into the safety of your comfort zone for a while and that’s not a bad thing.

Your comfort zone is your safe place where you can lock out the howling winds of change and re-assess how much of those changes you are willing to embrace. Free of the pressures, you sit with your personal power to re-arrange your priorities and set personal boundaries for yourself. You can then decide not only what you want to do and where you want to go but when you will venture out again. You get to factor in quality time and nurturing spaces for yourself and any other interests you have.

Giving up may be a hard decision to make but it empowers you to not only say “No,” to what is hurting your life but more importantly, to say “Yes,” to the time, space, activities and people that help, heal and bless your life.

Peace of mind

It’s been said that stress is a killer. But even before it kills you it wreaks havoc with your mind, your body and your emotions. Sometimes even the people closest to you don’t see or understand the stress you’re living with as you juggle the balls you have in the air. If you’re might adept at hiding your inner confusion and frustrations, they falsely assume all is well.

Are you portraying a false sense of confidence while your mind is spinning and drowning in a current of turmoil and overwhelm? Stop the pretence. Admit that you have lived with the mental torment for too long and it is messing up your life.

Step aside. Relinquish the struggle. Call off the fight. Abandon the project. Give up for the sake of your own peace of mind.

Life owns a myriad of seasons and this may be your season to consider giving up not in a throw-your-hands-in-air sort of way. Rather you can give up after a careful analysis of where you are, what you’re doing and how it is impacting your life. Then if you determine that going on is not as positive a move as it seems, give up, quit. It may be a temporary decision to allow you to get your life in order and then return. Or you may choose to close and lock the door on the issue. Retreat slowly or quit cold turkey if you can.

Giving up has negative connotations. Still, for the sake of your own freedom, empowerment and peace of mind, consider the usually unnoticed positive undertones to help you decide if giving up will allow you to live your life and enjoy the journey.
