The Power of Declaration
Article.
Have you ever considered how much power there was and still is in our nations (USA) Declaration of Independence. At the time, it had a tremendously galvanizing effect on the colonists, creating a spirit of unity, strength and common cause. This is just one of thousands of examples of the power of declaration. Let me ask you if I may…what sort of declarations are you making about your self and your life. By declaration, our words can become seeds of discontent, dissatisfaction and even hopelessness. By our wise choice of life declarations we can reap a different harvest. We can begin to change the internal landscape of our life if we can identify the positive and encouraging things that we need to hear and begin to declare them to our self on a daily basis. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars attending a motivational conference; although it might be money well spent. For many people this is simply not practical. I want to encourage you to become your own fan…your own life coach. Some of us are our own prosecuting attorneys bringing damaging accusations against ourselves. We must be our defense attorneys. I’m not talking about living in denial or rationalizing bad behavior. I am saying that words have a powerful formative effect on our lives. Begin making short positive statements about your self and do it often. Love and appreciate your self. see the beauty that is you and that you have to give away. Most of us do not truly see the effect that love, kindness, confidence, cheerfulness, a smile, hug, healthy touch have on our environment. We were all born to change our world through the goodness that resides in us. If we talk negatively to ourselves, castigate, criticize, belittle, etc.; we rob ourselves of our inner beauty and we deprive the world of the loveliness of the human spirit at its best. Here are some suggestions:
I am loving kind and thoughtful
I am strong and persevering
I am courageous
I am a good friend, faithful and true
I am a good worker, conscientious and diligent
I care about people, I consider their feelings
I care for myself in a healthy way but can deny myself to meet the needs of others
I am sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of others
I can speak my opinion because I have value therefore my opinions have value
This is just a partial list. Identify the things that are affirming to you. Believe in the power of the declaration and begin using that power to transform your life. This is the time…start now….you can do it!
