The Remarkable Power of Harnessing Your Focus
If you have goals and dreams still lying high upon dusty shelves in your heart, then get ready to dust them off and reach every one of them with as the power of focus is realized in your life.
The Remarkable Power of Harnessing Your Focus! Let us take each of these seven words apart and behold the power!
Definitions (source: dictionary.com, not all definitions listed below):
*Remarkable: “Extraordinary, worthy of notice, unusual”
*Power: “Ability to do or act, capable of doing or accomplish something, strength, might, force, the possession of control or command, authority, power, great or marked ability to do or act, a person or thing that possesses or exercises authority or influence”
*Harnessing: (harness) to bring under conditions for effective use; gain control over for a particular end”
*Focus: “A central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity, to concentrate, to focus ones thoughts, to bring into focus”
Taking into consideration all of the above definitions, we clearly see the extraordinary power of harnessing our focus. It is clear to me that a person who is truly “Focused” is capable of doing exceedingly, abundantly above what most people can imagine. However, true focus does not just happen, it is a, “Skill”.
*Skill: “The ability, coming from ones knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well, competent excellence in performance; expertness; dexterity, A developed talent or ability”
When you turn on your garden hose, the water sprinkles out in every direction, but you can turn your spray-nozzle to “Jet stream” and suddenly you have a “Force” to be reckoned with. What was a mist of water shooting out in every direction, is now a focused, concentrated, source of energy and water-pressure.
You can “Sprinkle” ten different projects with a certain amount of your energy and attention and barely see any one of them budge, or you can choose to Harness the power of your Focus onto one project and witness exponential growth.
Exponential: (Webster’s dictionary) characterized by or being an extremely rapid increase (as in size or extent)
We can make small progress on a big list of projects, or exponential progress on a small list. If you are trying to do everything at once, you will not do any of it well.
The first step is to create your list. List one or two things that you will focus on consistently until you have accomplished your goal.
Remember, focus, is a practiced skill, therefore, in order to reap the rewards of a focused life, you must practice saying, “No” to anything that is not conducive ( tending to produce; conducing; contributive; helpful) to your goals. Choosing a focused life will stretch us in many ways. People-pleasers will quickly find yourselves out of your comfort-zone when you must decline the many requests by friends to babysit their kids or church members, who insist you need to participate in the auxiliary committee, fund-raising volunteer committee, etc. But trust me, it gets easier, the more you practice the skill of focus, the more you will see the rewards of it and the benefit of its power.

Excellent points made. I usually will exercise before I start to dive into something important. It gives my brain a huge boost of energy.

Thank you for an excellant article. I will take these points to heart. Maybe, I am trying to do too much at one time. I have completed a children’s book and I am trying hard to have it published. I continue to hit road-blocks. I research and write other articles and stories, try to be a good Triond friend, ballroom dance and in the mist of all this I work and try to have time with my husband and family. I think I will work just on the book for a while. Thank you for your comments on my work. I also add you as a friend. I would love for you to read my other articles. My first ones are for mid-grade children with a few poems. Would love to know what you think. What is your book about and when will it be published? Did you self publish? I am looking into that myself. Always nice to have a new friend.
Take care, Pam

very useful advise.. focus has been a problem for me because I try to be efficient and tends to multitask most of the time.. another problem I have is that I try to please everybody.. I get things done but afterwards you`re so stressed you can`t enjoy the fruits.. thanks for the share

Creative, informative piece. I remember an old saying I once read many years ago which goes: “They who travel many roads go nowhere.” I still follow that saying and travel only one road at a time until I’ve reached my destination, or goal.
