The Staircase Meditation

A simple 6-step meditation that introduces you to the concept of astral projection and inner exploration via the subconscious.

Meditating can be a trying experience for some, especially when they’re trying to take it a step further and astral project. However, there are simple methods. The following guide is how I learned to astral project and what helped me dive deeper into a meditative state. Please note, however, that some do not consider this astral projection, but merely a way to reach higher levels of your own subconscious. Truly, it depends on your perspective, but both ideas are healthy methods of self-exploration.

  1. Sitting in an upright position, with your feet firmly on the floor, take a moment to examine the room you are in. Inspect every detail, especially the location of the furniture. Then, close your eyes and recreate that image within your mind.
  2. Once you have the room recreated, imagine a staircase appearing. It ascends upward, through the ceiling of the room.
  3. Feel yourself standing. Not physically, but like your inner body is lifting upward and leaving your physical body. You may feel an uncomfortable tugging sensation, but that’s normal. If astral projection does not come naturally to you then it can take time for you to become adjusted to not being fully anchored. Slowly, begin walking toward the staircase. If the tugging becomes too strong, allow yourself to gently return to your body. Otherwise, continue until you reach the stairs.
  4. Inspect the staircase carefully. Every staircase is different and this reflects aspects of your personality. What material is it made out of? How does it feel when you touch it? When you are done inspecting it, begin climbing the stairs. This is often when people find they can go no further the first time they attempt this meditation. That is fine. Simply return to your body and try again the next day.
  5. Once you’ve climbed the stairs you will notice a door, or opening, that leads you into a room of some kind. This is the first room of your subconscious, or the first space in the astral plane that you connect with the most. Feel free to enter the room and take a look around. Spend as much time in there as you want. Do not feel worried if your room isn’t a room at all. For example, my first room is a forest.
  6. When you are finished, you have the option of creating yet another staircase and ascending to the second floor or returning to your body. I recommend returning to your body if this is the first time you have perform a meditation like this. If you are accustomed to astral projecting then you can continue to go from floor to floor. There is no limit on the number of ‘floors’ you can access that I’m aware of. The highest number that I, personally, have reached is seven.

There may be a few aspects of this meditation which you may notice after you finish. Some people feel an ache in their solar plexus, which is where the tugging sensation came from. This isn’t true for everyone, however. I recommend resting for a few minutes, just to re-adjust to the physical world once again.

This meditation can be extremely helpful in understanding yourself and how you view things. Every time you access your rooms you will find something new, be it good or bad. These locations, astral or subconscious, represent who we are as well as our current mental and spiritual status. Not only can this meditation help you adjust to astral projection as a whole, but also it can help you understand parts of yourself that you hadn’t realized were there all along.
