The Value of Pain

An article on the importance of pain in life.

Life and pain are inseparable. The cutting of umbilical cord separates the baby from the mother is a painful experience to the former and a new life to the latter.. The first UHAAH!… of a new born babe brings joy unspeakable to a listening ear of a mother as she laids the child on the cradle.

Pain is the sole road to perfection. Like an athlete, struggling to perfect his skill, must endure countless defeats and broken bones in preparing himself for competition. There is no shortcut to mastery but pain. As they said, “practice makes perfect”.

Consider the birds in the sky. They may appear free and divinely graceful in spreading their wings to the greater heights. Sorties after sorties, both high and low, they enjoy the fruits of their perseverance to fly had it not for the countless drops and whoops they suffered from the very first time they jumped from their nest under the watchful eyes of the mother bird.

Pain maybe physical, mental, or emotional. It may derived from a broken bone or an overstretched muscle; or from a very serious problem; and in some instance, from the lose of a dear loved one. But just as an old poet said; “In every sorrow is joy and laughter awaiting”.

Pain brings out character; although too much pain may result, to some extent, into great depression; but the best in a person is seen through pain. Discipline, endurance, perseverance and above all faith are the values that pain offers to every individual. It is pain that connect joy from sorrow; life from death; and humanity to deity.

Even God had experienced pain in his divine nature. It pains God seeing the wickedness of men; on the other hand, man has to endure a lot of pain to understand God.

Pain must not be despised; for it is an integral portion of life. To be real, everyone must experience pain; otherwise, you cannot experience the mystery of being human.
