Things You Should Know During Your Lifetime

These are some things I have learned or already exemplified during my life as a young adult.

1. Although high school friends are one of a kind, you meet your closest friends in college because you see them almost all the time, not from 8-3.
2. The people who spend the most time trying to prove to everyone who they are really are the weakest.
3. Learning to keep your legs close doesnt mean you are better than anyone or has some type of “problem”, you understand that intimacy is something shared only with someone you really care about and not to have fun.
4. When a person chooses to not be in a man/woman’s face, it means they respect themselves and probably choose to wait on God to send them someone worth their time. Not someone to take up space.
5. People are the most fickle beings and that is why a dog is sometimes man’s best friend.
6. When you know you dont fit in, take it as a blessing. Some people are so stuck on being like everyone else, they lose themselves in the process? Who are you again?
7. Never try to measure someone based on your standards. Your standards could very well be lower.
8. Dont forget where you came from and the people who allowed for you to get where you are. Ask the people on Wall Street.
9. College is fun and you should have a social life, but dont ever forget your sole purpose for attending college, to obtain a great education ( still depends on where you go).
10. Dont give yourself high blood pressure working three jobs just to have the latest style. The person makes the clothes not the other way around.
11. Never drop your friends for new ones. You dont know the new folk but the others have been tried, tested, and proven to be true.
12. If you say anything about someone behind their back, you better be able to say the same thing to their face. I have seen many people who back down and change up their stories. A true sign of weakness.
13. Dont ever allow anyone to define you or your character. Time reveals truth and liars.
14. Realize that everyone who smiles in your face is not your friend so dont use that title loosely. I sure dont.
15. Believe half of what you see and nothing that you hear. Go to the source. Some of your lives would be a lot better if you did.
16. Living below your means is not such a bad thing, especially when you know you can actually live like many others, even better. Your bank account is something that shouldnt be on display. “Tacky rich do such things.” The way you respect should be on display.
17. Calling people fat, ugly, etc is a huge mistake especially when a car wreck, allergic reaction, etc can cause great change to anyone. Character never changes if its genuine.
18. By all means, practice what you preach.
19. Never think you are smarter than anyone else. For everything and everyone, there will always be someone better.
20. Dont get mad if your frienemie ends up with your significant other. You keep your business about your relationships to yourself. Its okay if the world or campus doesnt know your business. Classy ladies and gents know that. Your relationships last longer when your business isnt on Facebook!!!!
21. Take care of yourself, spiritually and naturally. You dont know a person’s relationship with God, so dont judge them. Never pattern yourself based on the magazine covers. Can you say airbrush?
22. Dont ever look down on people because you will find yourself facing the same thing whether it be poverty or SES.
23. Education doesnt determine your success, but your drive to succeed.
24. Dont follow someone else when it comes to progress. As long as you are successful, even if it takes you 10 years instead of 4, as long as you make it, that is all that matters.
25. Understand that a car is a form of transportation and nothing more. Using it to show your status is silly, especially when it depreciates when you drive it off the lot.
26. Clothes are nice, especially when they are tailored, but really, one trip to the cleaners and they can be ruined. I rather take the money and place it in my savings or in my stock portfolio. Please read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”
27. If you are in a relationship/friendship and you are giving too much without receiving much in return, sometimes you can love and respect people from a distance. Dismiss yourself. You will become a bit bitter if you choose to stay.
28. Dont force friendships or relationships when the person just doesnt cut it/has too many problems that you are not willing to deal with. Believe what the ‘old folk’ tell you. Follow your gut, if something isnt right, even if you cant put your finger on it, you better listen.
29. Learn how to walk alone because when all else fails, the only person you will have to face is yourself. Draw some energy from you instead of a crowd of folk. Solitude is not always by default, its by choice.
30. You may or may not believe in God, but no one can deny that there is a higher power. As for me, I believe in Christianity, raised in a Conservative Christian environment and will look at a situation deeper than some. I dont believe in switching the word around to appease anyone or anything. You either follow the word the way it was written or you dont, but dont ever live like hell and call yourself a Christian. No man is perfect and without sin, but even you know when you are not trying to live right. Please get it right.
31. You may be lied on, cheated, talked about,mistreated…you know the song. One thing about life, ALL things come to the light. So when people call you everything but what you are, dont risk your education, reputation,or sophistication on correcting them. Life does that very well without your assistance. You can outlive a lie, but character is something else.
32. You choose your path of life, but dont drag other people in your mess so you wont take the fall by yourself. Misery does love company.
33. When you grow up and realize that at the end of the day, you have to do what is best and right for you, all of this information provided will not be read but exemplified.
34. Look in the mirror and up above, at the end of the day, those are the two people that affect your life. Dont worry about the mistakes of others. One thing you have been given is a choice.
