Tips to Empower Your Life

by Tammy Duffey in Lifestyle Choices, February 2, 2009

Try these tips to encourage strength and confidence in your life.

Being empowered simply means having the strength and confidence to accept the life you live.  Perhaps we can even go so far as to suggest loving the life you live.  Now I don’t want to imply that being empowered means that your life will be perfect, free of the day to day hassles or free of the life stress that we all feel sometimes.  Being empowered truly means living your life, with all the hassles and stresses, with strength and confidence.

Here are a few tips to help you live a more empowered life.

  • Take responsibility for your life.  When we take responsibility for where we are, we stop using our energy blaming.  It’s easy to take responsibility for our strengths and accomplishments, but when we take responsibility for our weaknesses and failures, we’re given opportunities.  Opportunities to turn weaknesses into strengths and failures into successes.
  • Remember that the only true control you have is control of yourself.  When we accept this, we can let go of trying to control, persuade or bully others.
  • Become aware of your negative self-talk.  Being empowered is about strength and confidence and if we’re unconsciously listening to negativity, our strength and confidence is going to suffer.  When we learn to recognize the negative self-talk, we can actively and positively respond.
  • Face your fears.  Fear can grab us and paralyze us.  When we identify what we’re afraid of, we’re able to logically and rationally respond.  Instead of letting fear control us, we can take a different course of action that leads to strength and confidence.
  • Look at disappointments as challenges and opportunities.  Just like the medieval knights on a quest, each obstacle, each adversity that we overcome, leads to growth and development.
  • Decide what it is that you really want.  What are your goals?  What are you trying to achieve?  What are you working toward?  Keep a journal and write everything in detail.  If your goals and dreams seem to large, break them down into smaller, more manageable steps.
  • Commit to your course of action.  Once you’ve committed, never let anyone or anything force you to change course.

Remember, empowering your life is about strength and confidence.  Empowering your life is all about using strength and confidence to change your life.
