For anyone working toward making their dreams and goals come true, it is crucially important to find, create and utilize self-motivating tools that will ensure your success. Without them, the arduous journey can oftentimes become more difficult than necessary or even feel close to impossible to achieve. Some helpful tips follow:

Write Your Goals Down

According to some of the most successful people in this world, writing down one’s goals and dreams increases the likelihood of success sometimes tenfold. Fact: Before Jim Carrey became famous, he wrote a check out to himself for $1,000,000. Now he can cash that check multiple times. Are you writing your check right now?

Create a Structured Plan

Giving yourself a schedule and a deadline date also increases your success rate infinitely. Sticking to this plan is crucial. Just because you know that you are intelligent, does not mean that you will be successful. Being successful still takes perseverance, hard work, and conviction among many other things. Even the most talented basketball player must still hit the courts and practice daily. He’s competing against the best. So are you. Keep your skills sharpened.

Take Care of Your Health

Without your health, you cannot function at your best. And, when you are trying to achieve the best, you need to feel your best. Make sure to exercise, eat healthy and get check ups regularly. It makes no sense to create a successful business that you will not be around for. Your health, like any successful business takes care and well thought out strategy. Take the time, take the care. You are worth the effort.

Read Inspirational Stories and Quotes

This is a great way to keep motivated! They don’t call these books “Chicken Soup for the Soul” for no reason! Inspiring stories about overcoming tough challenging moments, winning in the end, people who are successful and people who want to give great advice through quotes; these are all great motivators and will help you continue steadily forward on your path to achieving your dreams.

Believe in Yourself

You need to be your number one support system. Yes, it is important to surround yourself with people who support you, a healthy lifestyle, etc. But, in the end, you are with you the rest of your life. You need to be able to trust your intuition and believe in all the decisions you make. Success is not always measured in a dollar amount, a car, or a title. Success is what brings you true happiness, peace, serenity and love. Keep this in mind and always remain true to yourself. When you do this, you are already a success.

Excellent as usual. Writers are basically out on an island with no convenient and readily available sources for maintaining motivation, confidence and desire. Your tips should be a “basic” function of the writer’s routine. Since most of my friends are writers….(heck….most of my READERS are writers….)I’m going to pass your article along to as many of them as I can.

    Thanks Liane

Good tips here Liane, it is also important that we take action on the things we read about motivation. I know quite a few people who surround themselves with books about motivation, but haven’t followed up with the knowledge they acquire.

It doesn’t help if we just sit on the advise.

Absolutely right! Writing may be our passion, but it is also “hard work” sometimes and we, as any artists, need some helpful hints. Thanks!

Great tips! I would like to add two things. One, it’s important to take some time off everyday to mediate or calm your mind. Lot of doing and little reflection will make it hard to remain motivated. Two, you must enjoy the journey. Don’t plan your goals alone. Also plan how you will enjoy yourself after reaching each milestone. Create a very positive image of the aftermath in your mind.

I couldn’t thank you more for sharing this since it gives me a second thoughts on how I really should do things in my life. sometimes it’s hard to stay focus, not because i got strayed but because all the things i got to do in a day really tires me easily. But keeping a due date and be positive are really important i guess. I should just keep all the sighs at bay and starts moving these two hands.

    Liane,
I read this at a perfect time. Too much to do and little time. I need to set deadlines and priorities. My son and I recently started going to the gym together. Thank you for all the tips.
