Top 10 Ways to Handle the Feelings of Guilt

Guilt is considered as one of the destructive human feelings. It can destroy you if you kept on wallowing into it. Take this 10 ways to handle the guilt.

Guilt is considered as one of the destructive human feelings. It is actually found only in humans. The feelings involved anger against your own self for perceiving yourself as a bad person for doing something bad. All of us suffer from guilt in some way or another. We also need guilt in our lives to help us control our huge abnormal urges to survive our society and be ahead of other species. But, when guilt starts destroying us from the inside that makes us feel torn apart then it is very harmful neurotic guilt. Guilt develops to every one of all gender, ages and status of living. Some effects of this feeling is stress related, low self esteem, under confidence and trying hard to be perfect.

How to handle guilt

1.)      Accept what you have done is a sign of imperfections and accept human “Grey” nature.

2.)      Understand that in all actions can be either good or bad, we are always doing the best we can.

3.)      Talk your guilt to someone, because hidden and suppressed guilt is the most destructive guilt.

4.)      If you cannot fully express yourself to some close friends or relatives about your guilt, you can go to a priest or a psychologist to ask for counseling, advices and/or sympathy.   

5.)      It’s very important to accept the mistakes and take corrective actions. But it’s not right to just keep on feeling guilty for that mistake and not does anything concrete.

6.)      Feeling guilty does not mean that we are careless human beings.  But we can always strive for improvement and does not wallow to continuous feeling of guilt.

7.)      Regret is O. K. But take the necessary corrective actions and then stop feeling guilty.

8.)      Believe in yourself and don’t wait for “approval” from others. Make your own realistic standards of behavior and actions.

9.)      God made you imperfect and, therefore you have to forgive yourself for making imperfect decisions. If he can forgive you, then why can’t you forgive yourself?

10.)        Put your corrective action into work and stick to them. Only you are the judge of your own actions. Don’t judge yourself by the standards set by others.
