Undoing the Pain and Suffering by Adopting a Better Perspective
Inthis article I write about how early childhood abuse and a negative social attitude conditioned us to pain, suffering, bad personal psychology, and a bad attitude.
HOPE IS NOT A SUPERFICIAL CONCEPT
The solution to most our trouble is to grasp a more realistic concept of life. Many of us think all our dreams should come through. In addition, many of us think the only life that matters is the one of fame and fortune.
Today, if we reevaluated our lives to a more realistic concept we would see we have more then we think. I would even say most of us have reached the top of the mountain; we just don’t know it yet. The reason we don’t know it yet is because life for many had to be with that love that got away and a life of excess.
The inability to manufacture this life led to many disappointments. These disappointments caused pain and conditioned us to the idea that life is hopeless.
If some one were to sit next to you and tell you “what you need is to believe in the future”, you would probably reply angrily, “What the heck do you know?”
Let me give this a try. I know that though our dreams matter they are not our whole life. In addition, I know that our mood is influenced by our thoughts. I also know our behavior is influenced by our emotions. If we have a lot of pain and a bad attitude we are going to be prone to behaviors which make our situation worse, such as hopelessness.
Now, what is this thing we should believe in to get better? I say the goodness in life is this thing. To be a healthy organism we should eat, rest, enjoy relationships, have intimacy, keep a positive attitude, and engage in other simple pleasures.
Therefore, we should have hope in the skills we have that can help us acquire this goodness of life. We are thinking-information processing creatures. This means we have the ability to evaluate information in order to learn about our selves and learn the tactics that are useful to acquire the goodness in life. However, our hope rests in our ability to work for ourselves. Every single one of us is more then equipped to influence our inner peace by adopting a positive and healthy attitude.
THERE IS NO OVERNIGHT CURE
The realization that our perspective of life is the cause of most our pain should relieve a major part of the pain. This reason is that we now see a glimmer of light. After all we can change our perspective of life to a more realistic one. In addition, we know what really matters in life and see our selves capable of getting the goodness in life.
I do feel obligated to tell the reader that it takes time to adopt a new attitude and to completely construct a new life. The idea that our solution rest in a “pill” or ‘”spiritual prophet” is a false idea.
The solution to our emotional and psychological distress comes from perseverance and discipline. Every day we have to work at being optimistic. We practice optimism until it becomes second nature and automatic.
I am constantly reviewing what I have in my life, doing things that give me pleasure, and setting goals. I like music, food, and a special friend. In addition, I know that in life first comes work then comes play.
Our emotional wounds are serious wounds. The pain is real. However, our critical thinking brain is also real. Our concept of our selves as a decent people who only wants the basics of life is also real.
