Vegan: Discriminated

Since, the vegan are non-violent, there issue is not easily picked in most cases. Check in to know more.

Vegan diet is the diet, which abstain from flesh foods. This diet has existed for thousands of years. Some of the well-established world religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Zoroastrianism promote this diet.

There is large population of vegetarians in the world but still they face discrimination all around the world. There are several examples, which prove this fact.

  1. A vegetarian bus driver fired just because he did not promote hamburger pamphlets.
  2. Many vegan students are unable to access high quality education because the students do not have access to proper vegan food. For example, my friend do not want to go outside the city for higher college studies because many colleges hostels do not have vegetarian mess (even, some of the elite institutes like IIT-B do not have separate mess facilities for vegetarians and non-vegetarians). The main reason for such a demand is that the same utensils used for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food preparation.
  3. Non-vegetarian diet has become a status symbol and those who are vegetarians considered inferior.
  4. The governments seem to ignore the feelings of vegetarians. For example, Indian government permitted the promotion of eating eggs by National Egg Coordination Committee in early 1990’s. This brings mental trauma to many vegetarians, as they cannot ignore the advertisements, which comes when they watch television.
  5. Many vegetarian restaurants cheat vegans. They add egg in certain vegan foods (like Nan, Roomali Roti) to enhance the characteristics of food product
  6. Many times in a party, vegans forced to pay more just because they have ordered vegan food.
  7. Since, the issue of vegetarian discrimination is not as sensitized as compared to other issues like discrimination against women, child, religion, region, caste, creed, even the fellow friends in many case just ignore the fact they have vegetarian friends. For example, during any kind of celebrations most of the cases the cakes ordered contain egg in it, despite the fact that egg-less cake are available in the market.
  8. Bullies made one of my friends forcibly eat fish. They made him an outcast in the class, when he complained about them to teacher.

Addressing such issues should be of prime importance because the media do not easily pick up such issues. Such discrimination can become more rampant and disastrous to the development of vegetarians if appropriate actions are not taking well in advance. The situation is dangerous because the people who do discrimination against vegetarians are the well-educated, rich sections of the society. In most of the above cases, the educated or rich class discriminated vegetarians. Currently, I have not come across any vegetarian who decides to take the violent route for justice, but if justice not given then no one knows what can happen in future.

Oh my god, that’s totally crazy!
It’s food nothing more. No one should decide what food you would like to eat. People who eat meat must respect people who doesn’t and the other way around too…

    Thank you for sharing this.

    Best regards,
