Who is Really Original?
The power of influence. Looking out for the cookie cutter behind the curtain of culture.
Are you original? Is it safe to say that everyone wants to be in charge of who they are? No one wants to be a puppet in this place we call planet Earth. This life is flooded with a vast ocean of influence. It starts with our parents. It becomes stronger with our friends. Music and television continue the flood. We see others. We live life based on what we see others do. We hear others. We live life based on the life songs of others. We experience things. We relate with others with similar experiences. Susan broke her heart after a long lasting relationship gone wrong. She hears a song about the broken hearted. It makes so much sense now; this is what life is all about. Just look at that famous person. That looks so great on her. That must be what fashion is all about. I should go buy those clothes. That is what life is all about. Just who is Mr. Influence? He gathers the dough, he mixes the proper ingredients. He cuts the cookies with the same mold. Hiding behind a curtain, he fools the people into thinking that they are in control, they are original. What happened to my child? Why is he acting so differently all of a sudden? It’s that teenage stage. They are in full control now. They know what cool is. These young people are at the climax of influence. It seems they can turn in every direction they feel makes them who they are. Who they are however is far from original. Who they are is all about what they see and what they hear. Are they finding themselves or are they finding everyone else? Check out culture. Whats behind culture? If someone was trying to fool you with intentions of successfully doing so would they really admit it? Why would a bad guy dress up like a bad guy if they wanted success in crime? Why would a burglar wear bright colors and rob a house during daylight? Susan, what do you think about imitating a higher power? Get out of town. That is ridiculous says the cookie cutter behind the curtain of culture. Go with the flow. Be like everyone else. Live your life. Please yourself. What if your purpose in life is more original than you could imagine? Maybe the good book really is good. Maybe we have more in store for us if we ignore the dude behind the curtain of culture. No way, that couldn’t be so. You’re talking non sense. Let me just do my own thing. After all, I invented my own thing. My own thing is original. No one influenced my own thing. Its mine all mine. Think about who you are. Could God really be perfect? Could he really be good? Could he really have our best interests in mind? If so, then seeking him would be safe. Seeking God might just make us original.
