You are in Charge of Your Choices
Perhaps when you were young, you weren’t completely in charge of your choices. You had parents, relatives and teachers who made your choices for you, but all of that changed as you grew into adulthood. I’ll bet there have been times in your life that you wished someone could still do that for you. As you grow older, the choices become harder and harder.
You became the boss of you
When you became an adult you also took on responsibility. You became responsible for yourself and your actions. You could no longer say that whatever happens to you is this persons fault or that persons fault. You are responsible for you. Don’t even try to blame what’s going on in your life on your childhood because nearly everyone in today’s society had a bad childhood. It’s no longer like it was 30 or 40 years ago when families were strong and there was such a thing as ‘normal’. Having wealth doesn’t even guarantee you a good childhood. Growing up in a wealthy household, can sometimes cause additional problems for a child.
Regardless, your childhood is in the past and that’s where it should stay. Sure maybe it did affect who you are today and why you do some of the things that you do, but, like I said that was the past. You can’t change what’s already been done; you can only change what is now and what is to be. So, learn to let go of the past and focus on the now. I know that’s easier said than done, but if you learn to do it, the freedom you’ll feel will be amazing. Also, by letting go of the past, you’ll be able to forgive and enjoy your present life so much more. How do you let go of the past? One way is to constantly talk to yourself and tell yourself the past is gone, it’s dead, and there’s nothing you can do about it. You just can’t change it or do anything about it. Why suffer with constantly focusing on it? Let it go. Would it be so bad not to remember the bad things in your past? Don’t you really just want to remember the good things anyway? Think about it. Another thing you can do is every time you think of something bad or negative about the past, redirect your thinking about something good and positive, that way replacing the bad with the good. Changing negative past thoughts is a choice. A good choice, that you can make if you so desire. Remember, you are in charge of your choices. No one else, just you.
