Seven Makeup Tips for Men

Over the past 10 years, more men have been wearing makeup to look their best.

Over the last decade, thanks to the rise of the metro sexual, more men from all walks of life have added makeup to their daily grooming regimen. The scope of how much makeup a person wears, varies per individual, but can go from simple patch work to complete concealment. In this article, we will show you how to subtly apply make up so that it is hardly noticeable if noticeable at all. Lawyers, and business men have been doing this for years to look their best, now any man who wants to fine tune their appearance can benefit from makeup without being pointed out in a crowd. To apply makeup correctly, follow these steps and you can’t go wrong.

  1. Prepare

First you are going to need exfoliator, moisturizer, toner, cosmetic pads, concealor (foundation), matt powder and a fine makeup brush.

  2. Concealer (Foundation)

You must now find a concealor that works with your coloring. Hers a tip, a concealer should always be a shade lighter then you skin tone. Using the back of your hand, test out shades until you find the right one for you. Do this in daylight if possible for some lighting may play wit your visual perception.

  3. Exfoliate

In the morning wash your face using exfoliator with warm water. Its best if you do this using circular motions. This will remove dead skin cells and unblock pores. Never exfoliate after directly shaving to prevent redness and irritation. If you need to shave as well, then only use exfoliator to un-shaved areas. When this is completed, rinse your face with warm water.

  4. Moisturize

Exfoliating unblocks pores, but it also strips the skin of natural oils and your skin needs those oils. For this reason it is important to moisturize after exfoliating. Use upward strokes to apply moisturize. This will help replace those natural oils.

  5. Apply Toner

Dampen a cosmetic pad by running it under warm water and then squeeze the water out. Apply toner the pad and then lightly over your face. Toner will close the pores that were opened during the exfoliating process.

  6. Prepare and Apply Concealor

Using your fine makeup brush, put some concealor on the back of your hand and mix it. Pick up a small amount of concealor on your brush (you can always go back for more). If you want to conceal a spot make sure it isn’t open or bleeding. If it is wait until it is healed before putting concealor on it. Just work around those areas. Apply concealor using your fine brush in a gentle circular motion on top of areas that you want to conceal and then blend into skin. Make sure you cover all blemishes that you wish to conceal, minus the open ones of course.

  7. Powder Matte

A powder matte is used if you want to give pale skin more color as well as to help the concealor blend better. This will help make the makeup almost invisible to others. Pick up some powder using your powder brush (this should come with your matte powder) and lightly dust it over your forehead and face. Apply matte powder a little heavier over cheek bones to give them better definition.

Now you are ready for the world. I suggest you check yourself in the mirror to make sure you achieved the look and feel that you wanted. Remember, once you’ve applied the makeup, try not to touch your face during the day. This will cause your makeup to rub off and reveal that you are actually wearing any. At the end of the day, remove the makeup by washing your face as you would usually do and then finish by using moisturize and toner to stop the risk of getting black heads.
