A Letter to The Marine
This is your brother from a black mother! I hope that makes enough sense to you, but in case it doesn’t, throw that one out, but you must first laugh before you do so. You are now in Iraq, and I hope I am not being facetious or disrespectful for calling you by your first name, since that is how I am used to calling you even though you are a United States Marine (USM). But regardless of your name, you are still a great "guy" in my book. You are a tough one, a strong one, and above all, a Godly one. And when I speak of one, or use the word to describe you, I mean that you are a "man." The world needs more of these.
This is your brother from a black mother! I hope that makes enough sense to you, but in case it doesn’t, throw that one out, but you must first laugh before you do so. This I believe is essential because not many young men know whom they are; let alone, aspire to be anything in life. Moreover, volunteer their time and efforts for the good of others. You on the other hand, have continually made your parents very proud, especially our “Mamma Dee.” And if that is all you do, it counts tremendously.
Seeing you go is probably one of the toughest things a parent will ever experience. I know because my mother experienced the exact thing, if not worst. It is really hard for them. Consequently, if someone had told me that I would be talking like a parent at this junction of my life I would have said, Yeah Right! But guess what, the Lord has blessed me bountifully: not only with a great family like yours, but a wonderful wife and son of my own. You hang in there my brother; He will bring you and your unit out safely, in JESUS’ NAME. We are praying for you and the others.
To the defendant of a nation: I thank God for you and the rest of the men and women fighting to make peace our neighbor, best friend, and permanent house guest. Sometimes I know that most Americans do not see it this way, or even appreciate what you do, but you were chosen to defend this great country. As a matter of fact, and I hope you too believe this; nothing is co-incidental. God knows all, even that which has not yet accomplished- “futuriscally” speaking. He, God, said I knew you before you were form in the belly (Jeremiah 1:5); isn’t that amazing? You are in Great hands, so rest assured, confirmed, and be encouraged. He will never leave you, nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8).
Now Cpl. Crumpler William Darrick of the USM, remember, one day we all have to leave something, somewhere, someone, and somehow; but regardless of the directions we each take, the only thing that matters is whether our names are written in the Lambs Book Of Life, (LBOL). If you are not, and I am not assuming that you already aren’t. Ask God to save you; not just from wondering bullets, bombs, weapons of mass destructions, or even self destruction, but ask him to save you and your unit; again, not in your sins, but from your sins, and He will. That way, your destination is for certain.
To the defendants of This Great Nation, The United States of America; be encouraged. May God’s peace be with you all as you nurture the promise that was instilled in you from the beginning.
