ASAP, Military Alcoholics Anonymous

An article describing ASAP.

ASAP is the Army Substance Abuse Program. The program is one of the many military benifits available to soldiers and their family members. The program offers a free option for the treatment of addiction to drugs and alcohol for soldiers.

Today, it is no secret that drug use is an ever-growing problem in our society. The military has not escaped this problem. That is why the Department of the Army created ASAP. ASAP staffs numerous addiction treatment counselors in their facilities throughout the United States and overseas. In addition to treatment, ASAP also coordinates for units to be randomly tested for substance abuse to help deter the use of drugs throughout the Army. Soldiers can be reffered to the program medically, by their command, or on a volunteer basis. Soldier who volunteer for treatment are free from penalties under the limited use policy. The policy encourages soldiers who have a substance abuse problem to seek treatment and get help by offering protection for those willing to seek help.
