Camp Arifjan
Kuwait has finally risen and built a permanent facility for Americans. This base rose out of the sand and is a state of the art base complete with force protection to life support.
Yes writing this article I do have a reason. My son, who is a Navy SeaBee is stationed there now. This has become his destination in the Middle east and the place for a few months will call home. In the first day of his arrival here they were taken by truck and the ride was a bit scary. Being thrown into an unknown place and not knowing the safety in this region. So I decided to do some investigating on this base and see where it takes me. This is what I have found.
Kuwait has finally risen and built a permanent facility for Americans. This base rose out of the sand and is a state of the art base complete with force protection to life support. The troops who live here will be living in actual barracks not beehives in warehouses. Airfjan also uses shatter proof mylar glass as windows instead of Kevlar net. Armored vehicles will also have there own warehouses for the mechanics to keep them in tip top shape in case they are needed.
This facility will replace the one in Camp Doha which was a industrial warehouse which was to be temporary until Airfjan was built. Doha has been in operation since the Gulf War. Now today Arifjan hosts US Army commands that have a true presence in the region. US forces host this compound with agreements set to provide and manage this base along with the security of Kuwait.
This is a brilliant compound and has many storage warehouses on the grounds. It is not only home to the Army but other branches of the military. The compound is still in process and has a ways to go to be called complete. If you look at the base it is defiantly set in the sand in the middle of what looks like no where. In the middle of a grand desert surrounded by the guards that sit in the high towers for those who live insides protection from terrorist attacks.
Although safety in Kuwait has been very stable no one knows how long that will last. With this base and the men and woman who call it home, that is their jobs to make sure safety is upheld. While at the same time completing this facility.

I was atationed in Camp AJ back in 05. When I left it was already becoming a very equipped base. My husband and I will be redeploying to AJ Winter of 10 and was hopeing for an update on what it is like there now. If you son is still there could u have him email at brianna.smith@us.army.mil, I have tons of questions for him. Thanks
