When war veterans are not able to function in a regular society.
We have heard of the phrase Combat stress many times and generally it relates to war veterans. What does this really mean? Often we consider combat stress to be about a member of the military service, who has got very stressed up and is not able to function any longer in a regular society. When military personnel go to war, they are surrounded by danger and they have to be alert all the time. There’s sure to be some damage psychologically when this response is there 24/7 for several months or even years.
War regions have a very testing, moral, and devastating situation which a human being may have to come across in his life. Combat stress evolves when a person is put in no escape situation. Every day repeats itself and there is no relief from the terror of war.
It’s very tough to picture the mental irrationality and psychological stress and to the extend an individual is subjected to regularly, unless you know someone who has been in a war zone. We are shocked by the death of innocent people when we get the news of war zones, but we think very little about the young people who are there to do this job. These young soldiers may have joined with the thought of promoting democracy, protecting the world, fighting governments with their ideological concepts which are different from the ones we pledge to, by merit of a hypothetical righteousness.
War is about killing and this is the origin of combat stress. All the people have particular moral boundaries, which they don’t want to cross. There is the problem as when you join the military, you have to follow orders, even if they don’t match with your own values. You are trained to obey at any cost during military training. Most of the people are transformed into dutiful servants, for death or confinement.
Combat stress results when the person is not able to reconcile with what he told to do, and considers ethically correct. You are sure to get a physiological problem when your choices are to be captive or turn down for disobedience. You want to live, but you don’t wish to be implicated morally for actions which will keep you out of the fortifications.
Typically the inductee or naïve enlisted individual decides on the less painful action of do as told and expect the best. It is possible for combat stress to stay all your life manifesting in different ways that are not good for a healthy society.
