For Him I Will be Army Strong
Being strong for the soldier I love, while he is away.
Going through my first deployment with my boyfriend has been a journey. There are so many people out there that do not understand what a “Charlie Foxtrot” really is, let alone what it means when you take an oath to never leave a soldier behind. I have taken the time to understand this and slowly trying to understand a lot about what he does. I never knew where I really stood in this life, what kind of person was I suppose to be. Then one day I figured it out, sitting at an ex-boyfriends funeral. I was meant to be an military wife.
A part of me is everything that that Army values stand for, I know what it is like to put myself last. I do not have the heart to be a soldier, but to love one…I have the heart to stand by, to be strong, and to hold down the fort at any given time. I know why I do this and who and what I do it for. To be an army girl you must know this:
- Love: It takes a strong heart to love a soldier, especially when he is so far away.
- Commitment: Take time to put aside yourself and focus on what he/she needs. Care packages, letters every week, and all the support you can give.
- Courage: You have to have the courage to be strong and understand this is not about you. It is about something bigger then you. You are merly a grain of sand.
- Loyalty: If you cannot be loyal to the one you love, when they are called away. Do not wait until they are gone to figure this out. Decide the first moment they told you what you were getting into.
- Selflessness: Again, you are just merly a grain of sand, put yourself last every now and then when someone needs you. Whether it be your soldier or another soldiers girl.
- Respect: Have respect, not only for yourself, but those all around you. Do not do something to make you, your soldier, the military, or the country look bad. REPSECT THE RULES OF SILENCE! Meaning some things they may tell you are confidential.
These are only a few things you should be aware of. I have done so many things to make sure my boyfriend and our soon to be family is take care of. This is my life, the life I choose!! I am proud to call myself and army girlfriend… Someday soon, an army wife!
