Gsg-9: Behind the mask

GSG 9 is one of the finest Special Forces in the world. Its legend commences on 1973, months after the massacre of Munich Olympic Games.

GSG 9 is a police force, it encompasses three basic units. The operatives are selected through hard condition. All police officers from the state or federal can apply for the training, however, at the end of the training there is only ten percent are successful to become the operative of The GSG 9.

The candidates are required to undergone one week fitness competition. They are expected to accomplish 5000 meters in 23 minutes and 100 meters less than 13.4 seconds. Other than that, they are required to lying push up for five times and do seven clean pull ups.

After this fitness competition, the surviving candidates are screened for mental and psychological weaknesses. This is to make sure the candidates are both mentally and spiritually fit under the intense stressful assignment.

Physically, the candidates are 1.63cm to 1.95cm in height. They have to be perfectly healthy from all aspects. After the tough one week fitness competition, the survived candidates are going to the next level of training which is combat fighting.

A lot of candidates dropped out in this process with injuries such as sprained ankle, saddle toes and swollen hands or feet. The harsh training including abseiling, hand-to-hand combat, shooting, is among the strenuous training.

Other than physical training, the candidates are also undergone hostage negotiation, legal aspects and psychological studies.

 When all of this training carried out, the last challenge awaits the candidates. Eleven of them are giving a compass and little foods and surviving solo in the wild for a week in order to accomplish the final task. Once the task is accomplished, the result will be too.

The reality is only 15 out of the hundreds get to earn their certificate and selected to be the GSG 9 operatives.
