Hot and Homeless
The third observation of the homeless man.

The heat index has been sky high in Florida this October. The temperatures have steadily been in the nineties. I noticed our guy riding down the street nearby. He now has an American flag proudly displayed on the back of the bike. This is another clue he is probably a vet. My dad is a vet and he displays the flag when ever possible and has been a member of the American Legion his whole adult life.He will be 91 years old next month. Our guy seems to have a new hat quite often. I have observed at least four so far. He had on a lightweight blue Hawaiian shirt on today. His heavy coat and all the belongings were all securely tied down on the bike. He seemed to be cruising the neighborhoods close to the park. He does not deviate very much from his daily routine. We are all really creatures of habit, not just him. I am pretty predictable myself. He seems adjusted to the Florida heat. If this was me, I would be passing out while riding. I do not think I would make it as a homeless person. The temperatures do go down after dinner. He never appears to be sunburn. He does appear to have that tough Florida sun skin however. He always has a hat on and sunglasses. He had on short sleeves today, which is unusual. He usually is all covered up. I am wondering if he has help from local organizations. When my dad ran a thrift store he used to give to the poor and homeless. Maybe that is how he is coming up with the hats. There are many church run thrift stores in the area as well as Goodwill. There is also a drop off not far from the park, which is on his way to McDonald’s. Good for him if he is resourceful!!!!

The homeless need a place to stay before they can even began to get on their feet.
