How AJROTC Works
Have you ever wondered what a cadet goes through? or have you ever wondered about disciplining yourself? Find out about the life of a typical JROTC cadet.
JROTC stands for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and is a program in most Local high schools. JROTC was established to motivate young people to become better citizens using military tactics. Most parents usually believe that JROTC is basically a recruitment class for the military, its really not.
Cadets are required to wear uniform on a certain day, chosen by the SAI, and their uniforms need to be taken care of(dry cleaning and perfection), On their chosen uniform days most cadets will inspected by their company commander and first sergeant(see under company positions). They get graded for some few regulations, for example: Their military creases, ribbon placement, dirty shoes, etc. The program is run by certain people in the program.
SAI
An SAI is short for Senior Army Instructor. Usually retired from the army, a SAI is there to teach the cadets his wisdom and lessons. An SAI is usually accompanied by an AI.
AI
An AI is short for Army Instructor. Most usually the AI has recently retired from the Army.
Certain Cadets
A few cadets can demonstrate their leadership by obtaining high positions, such as Battalion Commander, Battalion XO, and Command Sergeant Major.
The Cadet Creed
The Cadet Creed is a creed in which all cadets must know, the cadets have to live through the life style portrayed in this creed:
I am an Army Junior ROTC Cadet. I will always conduct myself to bring credit to my family, country, school and the Corps of Cadets. I am loyal and patriotic. I am the future of the United States of America. I do not lie, cheat or steal and will always be accountable for my actions and deeds. I will always practice good citizenship and patriotism. I will work hard to improve my mind and strengthen my body. I will seek the mantle of leadership and stand prepared to uphold the Constitution and the American way of life. May God grant me the strength to always live by this creed.
The Battalion
The battalion is all companies combined together, the whole JROTC program is the Battalion. If one company looks bad, the whole Battalion looks bad. The battalions is usually run by the Battalion Commander, with the help of the staff. The staff includes the following positions.
Battalion Commander
The Battalion Commander is to lead the battalion, it is the Highest position and hard to keep if your not up to it.

I would like to inform you of an error with at least one of you positon discriptions. Platoon Sergents only do what you have stated when the Platoon Leader is not there. Otherwise, they take the “roll” and help provide discipline and instrucion when asked to do so by the Platoon Leader. That is why the Platoon Leader is an Officer and the Patoon Sergeant is only of Enlisted rank.

This is a good article, but not too detailed. There’s a whole slew of things that aren’t listed, especially position wise. I go to a military school so it’s a lot more JROTC structured. If you have some questions, especially regarding AFI knowledge (for N.Y.M.A. has been an Honor Unit with Distinction for as long as i know) feel free to contact me at josephgiordano@mail.nymanet.org

This is the author of the article, just like to inform you that i wrote this article at the beginning of my LET 2 Year. There’s obvious things left out, but obviously i didn’t know much at the time… I apologize for all the mistakes… Thank you.

C/ msgt wilson, you Sgt are erred. The platoon Sgt’s job is to run the platoon just as the 1st sgt runs the company. The Company comander works in conjunction with the first sgt and his plat ldrs to ensure training is occuring and everything is running smothly. the plat sgts take ords from the 1sgt to get the work done. The plat ldrs spend their time planning company or battalion activities for the BC or CC never marching or instructing. the only way a platoon leard would do that is in a parade or for an exhibition otherwise they are dooing offficer work.
