Is the Military Right for You?

Is the military right for your child or for you?

Is the Military right for you?

Joining the military can be a huge decision not only for an adult but even higher for a teenager. My daughter is a freshmen in high school and the recruiter’s have already been to there school. To me it seems as if they are selling a dangerous product with glamorous ads. Telling them of all of the travel and wonderful places that they will get to see the lives that you protect not only overseas but locally as well. They seem to have forgotten one little detail. You can also get yourself killed working for our Government. Besides the training that they receive for free and of course the college benefits that they receive. Do I think this is a good idea? I am not sure, it makes me wonder why we allow them to influence our children at such a young age on whether they should join the military. They do make it sound wonderful to the kids. Which only gives me chills thinking about it. But my daughter had already decided to join long before they came to the school. She is looking at the college aspect that the military offer. She just has not decided on which branch. Although it is her decision to make (when she is 18), her father and I have not said yes or no at this point to her. Actually her father is encouraging her, I on the other hand and just worring about it. With the world situation the way it is right now, in harms way is not the first place I would like to place my daughter. Perhaps the closet, but NOT harms way!

Our young men and women are being bombarded with the idea that the military is the only way to go. I understand that we need to have a military and the we need to be protected not only on our borders but overseas as well. I to understand that the military is a vital part of our government and something that everyone should participate in. In Jerusalem everyone, whether male or female must join the ranks of the military and serve their time. I also agree that it is good for them to learn the strict regiment of the service and I also agree that it builds character. I am probably not the only mother out there that would like to say. Please pick someone elses child, not mine!!

The final decision is hers of course and I will do my upmost best to back which ever decision she makes. And of course the branch that she decides to go into.

My youngest son joined the Navy in June of this year, and with each and evey day that passes I worry. He is still in “A” school right now, but soon that will be behind him. I am scared of where he is going to be in another month or two….the worry never ends!
