Jiang Zemin’s Biography

Jiang Zemin, was born August 17, 1926, is from Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province.

He participated in the student movement led by underground organizations of the CPC in 1943 and joined the CPC in April 1946. He graduated from the Department of Electrical Machines Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1947.

After the liberation of Shanghai, he served successively as assistant engineer, head of the work and the head of the workshop supplies, Party branch secretary and first deputy director of Shanghai Yimin Foodstuff Factory No. 1, the first director Deputy Shanghai Soap Factory, head of the electrical machinery section of Shanghai No. 2 Design Division’s first department of mechanical engineering. In March 1990 he was elected president of the Central Military Commission of the Republic of China is the third session of the Seventh National People’s Congress. In October 1992 he was elected member of the Political Bureau and Central Committee of the Permanent Secretary of the CCP Central Military Commission and Chairman of the CCP’s first plenary session of the CPC Central Committee XIV.

In March 1993 he was elected President of the Republic of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China, the first session of the Eighth National People’s Congress.

In September 1997 he was elected to the Politburo and the Standing Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission at the first plenary session of the Fifteenth CPC Central Committee. In March 1998, he was re-elected as President of the Republic of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission of China in the first session of the Ninth National People’s Congress.

In November 2002 he was elected chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission at the first plenary session of the Sixteenth CPC Central Committee.

15. March 2003, was re-elected President of the Central Military Commission of the People ’s Republic of China.

19. September 2004, he retired as Chairman of the Central Military Commission of Communist Party of China (CPC).
