Men Who Lived All Their Lives Fighting Wars

In a world where peace is so desired, it amazes to discover that there are men who cannot live without war – Their entire life revolves around war.


Some people live their lives fighting unending wars, others just think they have a duty to accomplish revolutionary changes in the world around them and they have no reason to rest until the change they dream of is done. Here are some 5 men who have lived a life of fighting. Any of them died before they could live in their dreamland.  

Che Guevara

He was one of the most powerful members of the Cuban government under Fidel Castro. He served as Military Commander of Castro’s guerrilla forces in Cuba. After the overthrow of the government of Cuba in 1959, he was appointed as President of National Bank of Cuba and later served as Minister of Industry from 1961 to 1965. Che was born Ernesto Guevara in Rosario, Argentina. He received an MD degree from the University of Buenos Aires. He became a revolutionary because he believed that armed struggle was the only way to improve social conditions and eliminate poverty.  In 1954, he held a minor post in government of Guatemala. After the over throw of the government that year, he fled to Mexico where he met Castro and joined his movement to overthrow the government of Cuba. He later vanished, only to show up later as a leader of a band of Guerillas in Bolivia where he was killed by government forces in an ambush.

John Mabior Garang

Dr John Garang fought for close to 22 years for the Liberation of the Southern Sudanese people. He was a well educated, focused and very determined rebel leader who although had a strong Catholic background, never hesitated to use the gun to settle issues of marginalization. His was a struggle for power and equality between the North and the Southern Sudan. He detested the Arabization of the South by the Moslem North and wanted fair distribution of the country’s resources. Just when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed and Garang named as the Second Vice President In charge of Southern Sudan, Dr. John Garang died mysteriously in a helicopter crush while heading home from a working visit to Uganda. He was a visionary who held sway, the true aspirations of the Sudanese people for real peace after many years of turmoil.
