My View on the War in Iraq

The War in Iraq has been a huge topic for debate for the past several years. There are three sides on this war.

There are people that encourage the war, people who despise any thought of war, and very few people who don’t care either way. The U.S. military invaded Iraq for a legitimate cause. It is not a selfish attack to make the U.S. look good, and is certainly not for any personal gain. They entered Iraq because the Iraqis are going through a difficult time and they needed help from someone. Some people believe that the work that the U.S. has done there is sufficient and they should pull out as soon as possible. They also claim that if the U.S. stays there any longer, they will just be wasting time and resources and many soldiers will die that don’t need to. The fact that many U.S. soldiers have died in the War in Iraq is not a good enough reason to pull out, they are still doing work and are trying to end the Iraqi citizen’s suffering.

The U.S. military is in Iraq to help the Iraqis. The Iraqis have gone through so much suffering since Saddam Hussein took control. If the U.S. did not invade Iraq when they did, there is reason to believe that Hussein would have killed thousands more. He had already used chemical weapons against Iran and the Kurdish minority in Iraq and he could have used them on anyone at anytime he wanted to. As a brutal dictator, Hussein had shown absolutely no care for the Iraqi people and he needed to be taken out as soon as possible because if his position was threatened at all, he would take many people down with him. Hussein had deliberately withheld food and medication from his own people for “propaganda points”. This is stating that Hussein is willing to kill of his own people for the sake of his regime. In the state that Iraq is in right now, they are nowhere near ready to take care of themselves. The old Iraqi regime was a great threat to regional stability. The Middle East is of great economic importance and if the region becomes unstable, there might be a great threat to global security. Hussein has just recently been taken care of on December 25th, 2003 inside of a hole about fifteen kilometers from Tikrit, Hussein’s ancestral home. The Iraqis still need to rebuild their government and military.
