My View on the War in Iraq

By the time the War in Iraq is over, the U.S. will have spent $3 trillion or even more. Every month, there is about $12 billion spent in Iraq. The amount of money spent on the War in Iraq is very high, and it is true that the money could have been used to help third world countries. It is also true that the U.S. would be better off if the war was not still going on, but that does not mean the U.S. military should leave Iraq. Joseph Stiglitz, author of “The Iraq War Will Cost Us $3 Trillion, and Much More” from the Washington Post,  says that the War in Iraq was a failed war and that it was one of the biggest wastes of money the U.S. has spent. The War in Iraq is most definitely not a failed war. The military successfully took out Hussein and defeated the Iraqi regime that he had made. “We had no alternative but to overthrow such a dangerous regime before it acquires such terrible weapons” (Endersby, “Iraq, Invasion of”). The hardest part is now over, but now the Iraqis need to set up their government and military again before the U.S. military can leave. It is better to finish a war then to walk away from it before it is completely finished.

The fact that many U.S. soldiers have died in the War in Iraq is not a good enough reason to pull out, they are still doing work and are trying to end the Iraqi citizen’s suffering. The sole purpose of being in Iraq is to help out the Iraqi citizens who had recently gone through a very hard time with Hussein in control of their regime. If the U.S. military got out of Iraq right now, there is a great chance for more terrorist attacks on the United States and on Iraq because it is showing that the U.S. military is weak or it shows that now that the U.S. is out of the way, their job will be much easier.
