New Recruits
What are the goals of today’s drill sergeants?
The WAC was still in effect when I entered the U. S. Army and it was changed while I was in the U.S. Army. My drill sergeants did all they could to encourage new recruits to adjust to this new life they are unfamiliar with. I trust that today’s U.S. Army still has the same high standards as they did then and the drill sergeants do Everything to help new recruits adjust and help them calm all fears and anxiety. Mind games have no place in the military. I realize there are good and bad drill sergeants. I hope the good outnumber the bad.
I want my daughter to succeed but she cannot do so when she hasn’t even gotten through reception without the drill sergeants already messing with her. I realize that there is a fair amount of growing up that new recruits go through. They do not need the added pressure of mind games on top of everything else they have to deal with.
It can be very frightening to a new recruit. I know, I was there. I made it through thanks to my drill sergeants being intelligent enough to know that mind games are counter productive to the end goal. They knew that they were getting people from all walks of life and mentalities. Their goal was to make each and every new recruit the best they could be. My drill sergeants took all factors to heart in a firm manner and I do not recall anyone in my unit not making it.
I pray to God that today’s Army has the attitude of no mind games. I was taught to say what you mean and mean what you say. I trust that today’s drill sergeants are of the same quality that they were 34 years ago. It would be a shame to find out that they fall short of their predecessors.
