The mission was successful. In return, however, the fleet was surprised by the storm in the English Channel and spread. October 4, 1744, HMS Victory was gone.

In the following days, rescue expeditions were organized. Finally, the pole pieces were discovered in Guersney and others of the Channel Islands, and residents have said that they heard the guns of HMS Victory, or even watched the sinking, without in any way they could help. There was no survivor.

Wreck Recovery
