Soldier Coming Home

A patriotic poem of a soldier’s wife holding down the homefront.

Last night I thought I’d dreamed you
because there you were by me;
but in the morning you were gone
as quick and quiet as you could be.

I know you weren’t here with me
but over in Iraq fighting the war
I must have saw you in my dreams
as I have thousands times before.

You were abruptly handsome with your
dark, wavy black hair in the wind
I don’t know how I’m living my life
without the love of my best friend.

I see how our sons look into your picture
as if they staring into the night sky
I don’t want them to think daddy’s gone
that he said a forever good-bye.

I haven’t yet told them you’re coming home
I intend for it to be their big surprise
They get to see daddy step off the big train
and joy with laughter will fill their eyes.

I miss you so much, my dearest darling
I have dreamed of this day for four years
This reunion will be met with love and kisses
and among them, many joyful tears.

My favorite type of poetry – one expressed in awe and love of a military loved one! Great work!

Good poem and so heart-rending! Thw low points of humanity are reflected in the evils of wars, domination, dictatorships, fanaticism and the complete reversal of relitious teachings of love and togetherness.
