The Battle of Bunker Hill

The American soldiers in the Revolution’s struggle in the Battle of Bunker Hill.

The Battle of Bunker Hill was one of the most successful battles in the American Revolution. The Americans lost territory, but killed suffered much less losses than the British. Secondly, the British were now looking at us with a little fear. Third, most if not all American soldiers, were rebel fighters. And lastly, our American Army had much more potential than they had showed this far.

First, the Americans won the battle, figuratively, because they lost a lot less people than the British. It also proved that they had a chance to beat the British in the war. We would have won the battle if we were better prepared, but, the Americans only retreated because they were running out of ammunition. This might have happened because the British cut off some countries from trading supplies with us.

Secondly, the British now looked at us as a threat. We killed 1/5 of their soldiers, and that was a big chunk. 1/5 of the British army was around 1,000 soldiers. The British also had cannons from their ships, which didn’t help them much. Lastly, their army was seriously affected when we killed that many soldiers. It was a huge difference when it was 1,000 rebel fighters, to 5,000 trained army soldiers.

Third, American soldiers were rebel fighters, only a fraction of them sniped the British. They were regular people who were farmers, merchants, traders, or any other person who wanted to fight for independence. And also, they were untrained in combat, so everything they learned, they learned after the war had already begun. This was a severe disadvantage to our army, because mostly every soldier was new in the field, they were used to their own daily lives.

And lastly, the American army had much more potential, because the only reason they backed down was because they were running out of ammunition. With this lack of ammunition General Israel Putnam said “Don’t fire till you see the whites of their eyes!” This helped a lot, because when you got to see their eyes, they were close enough to shoot without missing. We lost fewer soldiers than the British, and that’s what counts the most. So losing our territory wasn’t that much of a loss for us, especially because we didn’t need it after this battle. And after winning this battle, we could foresee some good things for this American army.

In conclusion, the battle was won outstandingly. The British got scared of us. We were only rebel fighters, and we won one of the first battles in the revolution. And that we had a lot more potential than we were really showing. This battle was possibly one of the most helpful battles in the Revolutionary War.
