The U.S. Armed Forces: Still Hiring in Times of Crisis
The present economic crisis has caused employment rates and homelessness to increase in the past year. It’s also causing a fall in sales, and in turn big businesses are cutting job positions for employed citizens. Whatever your current employment status there is always one place looking to hire: the United States Army.
The Armed Forces hire most American citizens; and it has a wide variety of positions open, allowing people with varying skill types to still be able to find a career. The Army has positions in both combat and passive aggressive forces, as well as general fields. The Army also has careers with medical and mechanical aspects as well and they are always looking to hire.
The primary purpose of the United States Armed Forces is to fight in combat and to defend our home country. The Army’s goal is to protect the United States of America using offensive or defensive tactics. A current example of this would be the war in Iraq. The United States declared war on Iraq because it government claimed to have weapons of mass destruction. The main force that fights wars like the one currently in Iraq are the frontline infantrymen. The infantryman’s job is to repel, capture, or destroy the enemy forces during combat and defend our country in times of peace
Infantrymen are the backbone of the American Army; however, there are less then 49,000 of them enlisted right now. This shortage is being caused because of the skills required to become and infantryman and not every one is qualified. Infantrymen must be able to accept difficult challenges, stay mentally and physically in shape at all times, and most importantly is able to work as a team and follow instructions. These skills are gained in basic and advanced training through activities that involve; team work, discipline and leadership. These helpful qualities can carry on into future jobs. In short the United States army relies on infantrymen but there are hundreds of other positions in the United States Army.
Another important force in the Army is heavy weaponry, such as tanks and amphibious assault vehicles. Although tanks may not be the Army’s first choice in most battle situations, tanks and tank crew members still play very important roles. The tank crew’s role is much like that of the infantryman’s in that it helps to defend the country during peace and destroy opposing forces in combat
The overall tank crew position is very similar to that of an infantryman’s. Both need to be leaders and to be able to defend the country passively or aggressively. However, tank crew positions require some unique capabilities, like Infantrymen, tank crew members must be leaders and teammates; they are also required to have skills in mechanics and must be able to perform maintenance on their tanks and tank guns. Tanks and their crew are very valuable and necessary parts of the armed forces. They can be used offensively to attack something from a great distance, or in a more defensive manner, like holding a position. Like any other job in the Army, being a member of a tank’s crew is a very respectable and difficult job.
