Top Five Best War Movies

The most realistic, emotionally gripping cinematographic works ever created.

Before you read any further I’d like to say that the movies listed in this article are simply a matter of personal opinion.  You might have viewed them from a different perspective or you might have interpreted them in a different way.  Therefore, please keep your rude and unnecessary judgments to yourself.  Thank you.  Oh and another thing; I will not be writing the summaries of the movies listed below.  They are all masterpieces and every person should watch them for him/herself in order to truly understand the stories to the fullest.

1.  Saving Private Ryan – Definitely one of the most touching works of Hollywood ever made.  It has been listed on the Top 100 Best Movies ever made and it is a title well earned and deserved.  Tom Hanks and Matt Damon do a great job as the lead actors of an amazing group of talented young men.  This instant classic has opened many doors for a lot of future stars one of the most famous being Vin Diesel who landed a small part in this movie as an American soldier.

It is the story of a group of young American soldiers during WWII.  After landing during D-Day they are set out on a mission to bring a young man home to the United States due to the fact that he is the last person still carrying his family’s last name.  But they have to travel through infinite miles of Nazi territory in order to find him.

2.  We Were Soldiers - One of the best, if not the best Mel Gibson movie.  This emotional tale grabs your soul from the moment the movie begins until the very last minute of it.  It is the true story of about 400 soldiers of 7th Air Cavalry of the United States Army who fought the North Vietnamese communist troops in a bloody battle which would later go down in history as the beginning of the Vietnam War.

3.  Flags of Our Fathers – Another very inspiring true story about the infamous battle of Iwo Jima.  Approximately 7,000 U.S. Marines gave their life in this terrific battle which went down in history as the United States Marine Corps.  However, the movie does not concentrate solely on the battle ground.  It is a intertwined tale of the actual war footage and the trip that three Marines undergo throughout the whole United States in order to raise money for the war.  These three Marines were chosen as spokesmen for this campaign due to their appearance on the famous American flag raising picture on the top of Mountain Suribashi.

4.  Full Metal Jacket – This 1980’s classic also features the United States Marine Corps.  Also regarded to as the finest fighting force on the planet, the USMC recruit training is one of the toughest basic military trainings on the planet.  This movie focuses mostly on journey of a few simple recruits and their transformation from civilians to Marines and their battle adventures in Vietnam.

5.  The Hurt Locker – This is not your classic war movie.  Even though it is pretty emotionally grasping at times it does not have the typical WWII dramatic mood.  It is possibly the most realistic war movie ever made.  It focuses on the lives of three United States Army soldiers who are part of the Army’s elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team while they are serving the last two months of their tour in Iraq.  It also goes to show the true living conditions of the American troops currently deployed in the Middle East and the horrific scenarios they are faced with each and every day.

If we’re talking emotional you have to add Schindler’s List and Grave of the Fireflies. If you aren’t moved by those two… I don’t know about you. Other great war films can be found at http://www.filmcrave.com/list_genre_movie.php?genre=War
