Top Five WWII Tanks

These war machines were the prime of their respective armies.

  1. Russian T 34 Battle Tank

Good armour that was sloped to deflect shells, economically friendly, 75mm gun (who could resist), carried the red star, produced in the thousands, smashed nearly all German armour, pretty scary, wouldn’t want to fight one

  2. German Panzer V Panther

75mm gun that could pierce almost any allied armour it encountered, extremely scary (a Nazi with a tank would scare me!), had a speed of around 40km/h, seen on every front

  3. German Tiger Tank

A huge tank with some areas of it having 100mm of armour (wow), could crush any tank and practically nothing could stop it, poor reliability, 88mm kwk gun (thats pretty big), crush anything in its path, wrought fear to everyone on the battlefield!

  4. JS – II

In terms of performance, this Joseph Stalin is number one as it could take on any German tank on the field being heavier, more heavily armoured and having a 105mm gun (wowomg). It just gets pulled down for poor production and reliability, but still good. Scared those Nazis to death!

  5. Sherman Firefly

A last ditch attempt to make the Sherman more capable in destroying axis armour, it worked by putting a 76mm gun at a 90 degree angle, but can in too late to see much combat. Probably the best allied tank of the war (behind the M26 Pershing?) it had good armour, speed and gun.

A respectable top-five list, though I think a few of your choices may have been a bit misguided. I do find it interesting that you tank the T-34 above the Pz.Kpfw V “Panther,” given the all-around technical superiority of the German cat.
