Valor-iphone Game

This is an article for Valor which discusses troop types to maximize effectiveness and growth.

In the simplest terms a combination of Berserkers and Knights yield the highest attack/food use ratio making them the best combo when you are worried about your farm cap (you should be). The mix does a couple of things that benefit you. First it accounts for a mixed defense which most people use (some combo of lancers, sentries, and guardians), secondly you can be building multiple units simultaneously, and lastly one uses mostly lumber and the other mostly iron which leaves you a surplus of clay generally which is needed most for building/scholarships.

Quick math for the above on why knights > guardians for attack/farm usage: 3 Guardians x 115 attack = 345 < 440 = 110 attack x 4 Knights

You get 95 more attack for the same crops

In a similar vein looking at berserkers: we have that 12 berserkers is 600 attack and much better still. However a solid force of guardians and sentries will put a huge hit on any all infantry force.

If you arent familiar with the way the combat works here is some insight. Take for instance for simplicity sake the two scenarios:

3 Knights(lvl2) is 137*3 or 411 attack vs 3 guardians which have 110*3 or 330 (cavalry) defense will kill all three guardians.

7 Berserkers(lvl2) is 60*7 or 420 attack vs 3 guardians which have 140*3 or 420 (infantry) defense will kill only 2 guardians.

When these numbers start to get into the thousands you can see how having a mixed force to deal with a mixed defense can make a big difference. You may have the most attack with straight berserkers but a balanced force is generally more effective.

For village setup I like to do this:

Offensive:
lvl1 lance(mandatory)
lvl3 zerks
lvl3 knights
lvl2 guards
lvl1 ram(could be ballista and you can build a bunch and flip back and forth as its cheap and quick to train and remove lvl 1 of each)

Defensive
Lvl3 Lance
Lvl3 guard
I use the remaining 4 points between scouts and sentries. Since Guardians excel at infantry defense i generally Like level 3 scouts and lvl 1 sentries but you only need so many scouts so I do level up sentries in some villages too.

This setup provides me with a lot of options/utility. Since I have lancers and guards in my offensive villages I can pump out defense in an emergency and from both barracks and stable. On the flip side I can use my guardians as a backup or auxillary attack force from defensive villages.

Edit: Note: in new villages that are decently far from my main core I like to build a few hundred lancers but really focus on getting a lot of guardians. That way I can attack or defend from this village since it is out on its own. Once I get a few villages together I can start the afforementioned differentiation.
