Veterans: How are They Really Treated?
How are we really treated once we stop wearing the uniform?

Being a former Marine, I have seen reactions to and the treatment of veterans that I never noticed as a civilian. While your in the military, as long as they agree with the war and whatever else is going on at that time, they shake your hand and show you the most respect you’ve ever seen. They even ask you questions and agree with and listen to everything you say.
But what about after the fact? How do they treat veterans after their service has ended? I can tell you, there is almost no respect left to show, if anything, they look and talk to you with contempt and malice. You become the enemy, there are thousands of veterans left homeless and without help every year. No one wants to give them a job, let alone a loan. Why? Why are we now the enemy, we could fight and say that we had the courage to do what others didn’t. But we keep what little dignity we have left and ignore the majority of the population.
What is the definition of a hero? Someone that gives a great sacrifice to protect others. Why do we stop being your heroes when our service to our country is done? What makes us different now from then? We’re still the same people, and some of us need help like others do, so why not show us the same respect now that you did when we served? We are not different, if anything, we’re just trying to fit back into normal society.

This is truly sad. Our government starts the wars, and those who start them, do not fight in them. They use soldiers as pawns, and take them for granted to do all the dirty work, then they turn their backs on them for the sacrifices they made to do what the government felt was right at the time. Where is the HUMANITY? It appears that our government simply see soldiers as dispensable.
